I've always wondered, why is it illegal for kids who have had the "sex talk" to view porn, or have sex, or stuff like that? Especially drawn stuff like shota, yaoi, yuri, and loli! It's not even real! (sadly...) Debate, discuss, and flame me if you will.

Simply because society believes that underage kids aren't mature nor have no business to view that kind of content.

because we really dont need middle school kids to be having children. as for porn, that law cant really be enforced and is pointless. but sex really isent a good idea for kids.

Heh, there won't be any flaming in this thread, or the mods will smite them! :P
Another factor may be the risk of having underage sex or transmitting STDs/STIs and pregnancy if someone chats with someone online. The kid is still with his/her family and isn't mature enough to handle a thing like having an incurable STD that they would have to live with for the rest of their life.
For buying porn/subscribing or just viewing, it's mature and may give the wrong impression at a young age
That's both my opinion and some fact :P

I think a much better question is: What does it matter?
Along with Marijuana(in Canada that is, Americans are more strict-and I don't know about Europe), underage sex/viewing of porn are the least enforced laws out there!
Seriously, I've never even heard of any teens being 'busted' for having sex. Heck, I've heard of them being busted for doing it in public at age 13(a friend) and still no charges pressed!
Who cares... There might as well not even be a law.

Canada has free cable porn....
I don't think they care really
the law exists more to protect the companys from the parents then the otherway around

is it so much illegal for kids to watch porn as it is "taboo"? Yes kids can have the sex talk with their parents but it does not mean that they should go out and have sex. Sex is an extremly emotional thing and sadly in todays society it is being shoved in your face down every corner.

errr, I'm surprised no one brought up the true point of this law yet.
The law was originally created because, well here's a scenario. Your parents are showing you porn from a young age, this can cause emotional/psychological damages. But how in anyway are they breaking a law?
It was made to keep children safe from things that could be harmful in the future. If police searched your house and found porn on your computer, they wouldn't care. Now if your parents had been making you watch porn etc. then they get a little more upset :P

Well the sex part part is pretty obvious isn't it?
I mean otherwise half the child population would have STI?

It is quite difficult to regulate such material, people mature at different rates, and it becomes suitable for children to watch at very different ages. However as long as it is made clear that sex isn't just a game and that there are risks, I see no real issue in letting most teens (those who have started puberty) watch porn.

(A quick note, I mean safe sex, of course. With a condom.)
So... wait. It's... NOT illegal to view porn if you're under 18? Or is it? IMMA CONFUSED!?

Depends on state/country on the age.
Here I can read erotica at 14? 16? I think, but can't view porno till 18/19.
I don't know exacts nor do i care.

Theres a law against it but its never ever enforced. I mean seriously, whats a cop most likely going to be drawn to? A shooting or a 14 year old boy watching a porno. As for sex, if your body is ready than technically your ready for sex. And again it is not enforced, so its no big deal.

Early STDs, or huge mental problems. I actually have it written down somewhere.

Because of politics, a group of parents, and other nut jobs convienced congress that it affects (sp?) the sexual and mental devolpment of kids under the age of 18 it doesn't however, however if it did the cut off point shouldn't be 18 but 22 because most people's brains don't stop devolping at 18 but 22
