Do you think professional athletes should get payed tens of millions of dollars a year like they do now?

Sure. It's supply and demand. I wouldn't wanna play football. Short career and hard to not have health issues. Baseball? If someone can throw or hit a 95 mph fast ball, it's a rare thing, so the demand for those people is really high.
Plus we kind of pay the players by buying shirts, going to games etc. So if people think they are overpaid, just don't spend anything on it.
If they do anything wrong at all, the media goes nuts. No thanks. They probably use a lot of money just staying safe and attempting to have privacy.

^^^ This exactly. Yes, I do.
Not many people can do what professional athletes can do. It takes a ton of work and, not mention, there is a ton of pressure that goes along with that job title.
It's basically all economics: people pay for tickets and other things (maybe jerseys, t-shirts, etc.) and that money goes towards the team. Professional athletes do their jobs and they get paid for what they do.
Sorry if this post makes absolutely no sense, I'm exhausted right now. :p

They are overpaid and are no help to society. All they do is entertain. Look how many of them commit crimes, too. What great role-models for children.

For the general part it is not a problem for me.
They can get paid as much as they want. They create tourism, give up there lives, become a social icon.
So I don't see a massive problem with them getting paid a lot.
They get paid a lot but they also give up a lot and they also generate a lot of money for the economy. So overall I don't have a problem with it. Commuting crimes, sure. Not a great role model, however who is?

"Recently, it seems like professional athletes can't do anything right off the field...But pro athletes aren't actually more likely to commit crimes that the average citizen. It just seems that way because of all the attention their cases get." --BusinessInsider
I really have no problem with how much pro athletes are making, like what I said in my above post. (:

Yes, they deserve it. Because not to many people can go through what they have to go through. They're basically employees that get payed the big bucks. It's also annoying when people say Doctors are overplayed, I believe SOME people say this because they're jealous of the money they get. A McDonalds worker shouldn't get payed the same as a Doctor. Also, athletes have health and medical risks they have to worry about. My uncle played college football and 30 years later his health is still messed up, he's had to get about 10-15 surgeries on different body parts, mainly back, because football messed his body up so much.

Sure. People pay to watch athletes.. it's hard earned money. Not everyone is as good as they are. (Or they wouldn't be paid that much, as someone else said ''Supply and Demand.'')
They earn tens of millions of dollars but they also spend hours everyday working out and practicing... and then for some athletes they deal with paparazzi and fans whenever they leave the house. Hard earned money.

I personally don't think they should be making as much money as they do (personal thing),but it is what it is. Supply and demand bby.

No, have they honestly ever helped anyone? It's pretty sad when more money is paid to these people than some awareness causes. I understand that maybe they want the fame, but I don't htink that fame= fortune.

Agreed. All those shows about them visiting cancer kids in hospitals, are fake! Made up! Those stories are few and far between. The only ones that really help, are the ones awarded by their sports league. And sometimes they even lie to get the award. What else do they do besides entertain? Meanwhile you have middle class people, struggling to make a living, doing much more important jobs, like working at a rehab facility, teaching (in some states) and lots of other jobs that keep people going round.

its the middle class people who spend tons of money just to watch these athletes and buy their products. these are the people who pay for most of the athletes pay checks so if you wanna be angry at someone be angry at them.
