If you can, state what you chose, and why?
BTW, I say NY. We have rural, urban, suburban. Beaches, great lakes, waterfalls, big cities...it is expensive and we aren't growing like NC or TN, but we're a big state.

I've never been to any other state but I wouldn't say New York is the best even though I lived here for 17 years.

What about states that aren't listed? I live in New Jersey and I could support and argument that the quality of life here is higher than those on that list, as well as any other state.

Sory coolbeans, but I'm in NY, and whenever I drive through NJ, all you see is gas plants, construction and yucky water as far as the eye can see. I'm not saying that state not on this list don't have as good of a quality of life, they may certainly have just as good of a standard of living, but I just picked these states based on their location in this country.

And when I drive through New York I see low-budget homes and people hanging out on couches on their front porches

This question is completely unanswerable. Too many variables, most based on personal preference. I wouldn't say NY, I wouldn't say California. To me personally, a small town that's very friendly and well off would be the best. Personally, South Carolina seems like the best place, personally. Every time I've been there it's seemed nice, there's plenty to do, and I haven't met anyone there who was a complete ass. But like I said, it's hard to say.
Also, Professional Russian, no one gives a shit about you and your guns. If they're truly your friends, you have an odd connection to an inanimate object with the only intention to harm other things.
EDIT: The only other state I can think of that might hold the tile of "State with the Best Quality of Life" would be Connecticut.

Notice how i did put North carolina, similar to SC because they are both growing ike crazy and have great beaches. So you could have picked that.

You're probably talking about the inner city and it's bad suburbs. I'm out east on Long Island. Isn't everyone on a low budget these days though?

Each state has their areas. New York has Manhattan, the quality of life for most of those residents are high. But for the crime ridden city, the quality of life is low.
For example, my state (California) has Beverly Hills, La Jolla, Rancho Santa Fe and most of the residents in those cities have a very good quality of life. But you have cities like Stockton, Compton, Modesto, Oakland, Fresno, etc where I could say that some of the residents have a low quality of life.
The answer to this question will be based on the patriotism you feel for your state. So I have to pick California cause I live here. Not anything against other states.
PS: California has everything you just listed too. We have everything New York has plus more. We have a desert. Seven national parks, how many does New York have? None.

I agree with the low and high quality cities explanation, but we're improving NYC. Harlem and Bedford have gotten at least 50 times better and have been much more improved since the 80s.
Ok, before you go around saying NY has no national parks, think a little...the WHOLE state has no national parks? Wrong! NY has Adirondack National Park, which can fit the 5 biggest Western US parks inside it, inlcuding Yellowstone and Glacier Mountain. We also have the Fire Island National Seashore on Long Island and Gateway National recreational area. We have Sagamore Hill national historic Site, which was Teddy Roosevelts home for 6 months of the year. Go here before asssuming:

I picked California, but I would have to say that my state, Colorado could easily beat probably any other state. We have good weather a good economy and the people here are so nice when you are comparing to any other state I have been in. Plus we have rural and urban areas, mountains, lakes, and cool attractions. This is almost the perfect state if you ask me.
Oh and like Mike said, weed here too. :P Likely legalized here in fact in November.

Adirondack Park is a state park not a national park. It's protected by the state. It's a ''national landmark'' but not a national park. Fire Island National Seashore is a national seashore, not a national park. Gateway National Recreation Area is a national recreation area not a national park. Sagamore Hill is a national historic site but not a national park.
I didn't assume, I looked it up before I posted. New York State has 0 national parks.
Here is a list of all national parks in the US:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_parks_of_the_United_States
New York has a lot of areas protected by the National Park Service, as all states do, but, none of them are actual ''National Parks.''

Out of the states I've experienced, I would ahve to say Alaska. High subsidies from petrol companies really takes the cake. Lack of recycling is shitty, but I can understand how expesnive it would be for them and frankly, it doesn't effect the quality of life.

I'm not that dumb, I knew they weren't national parks, but i was stating we have more nationally protected parks and tourist attractions then you think. It's NY, common sense. Of course we have national parks and national sights...
