(06/08/12) WESTHAMPTON - A veteran who served in the Korean War was fined on Memorial Day for flying the American flag outside his home.
Korean War veteran Buddy Savetz is locked in battle with the board of his Westhampton condo complex over the flag mounted to the front of his garage. He was fined $50 twice because it's against the rules to nail or drill into the outside of the condos.
Late last year, new siding was put up on all the condos in the complex. The condo board sent a letter to residents telling them that nothing could be glued, screwed or nailed into the siding or trim because holes in the siding could void its warranty.
Members of the board says the flag's holder is what violates the rules. They say Savetz is free to fly the flag on a pole or in a planter as other residents do.
Condo association members hope to resolve the flag issue at tomorrow's annual meeting
And to think this was America? The man who fought for our right in his home country, should be getting his own rights! Insanity!

He shouldn't be fined but they should make him put the flag in way appropriate to the rules

Him being a veteran is irrelevant. If he broke a rule that was mailed to him then he should suffer the consequences. Not like it would be too difficult to put the flag on a pole/planter...

He kinda deserved it I don't understand why you are so shocked. He knew the rules and broke them. :/

He broke a rule. Rules apply to everyone. I think it's fair. Just because he is a veteran doesn't mean that he's exempt from the rules, and the title is misleading...

Being a veteran does not excuse him from obeying the rules of the condo complex.

of course it is because you are the coolest veteran and you make us so proud because when you serve for a country that is a bully you get to break any law that you want.

That guy had other ways to show the flag that didn't break the rules. Kinda like illegal fireworks on July 4th.

Kinda, I see the error of my ways, but that illegal fireworks example is irrelevant. You don't ever see police trying to stop people, because it's just too many. in fact, some police even shoot fireworks themselves.

Does the terms "aristocracy" and "feudalism" ring any bells?
Just because you are a veteran doesn't mean you get to break rules that were clearly stated. Just like you can't go digging holes in the lawn at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
You don't ever see police trying to stop people, because it's just too many.
So if everybody started robbing banks, the police wouldn't care because "there would be too many"? Huh, interesting.
in fact, some police even shoot fireworks themselves.
Can you prove that? I don't see how you could prove that.

Uh, yes they do. Maybe not where you live, but down here where we've been in a drought, they take it much more seriously. They may not arrest people, but they do drive up and down the blocks to let us know they're watching.
Also, is there a different link to the article? The one provided leads to nothing...

He's talking about other countries we fight, like Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. Don't worry, he was just being dangerously sarcastic.
On topic, I don't think the guy should have had any special treatment. He's just another citizen. Okay, let's take it to the very extreme. Say Obama shot a guy. Wouldn't he get the same punishment as anyone else? (Logically?) Yes, he would.

If Obama shot someone they would cover it up simple as that :P

Yeah!! It's also an issue here in Korea.. Even we're against him. He broke a rule and he should face it's concequences ._.

Makes sense to me. It's not telling him that he can't fly the American flag. He just can't put holes into the siding. He can fly the flag if he can find a way to do it without damaging the siding. Also there probably wouldn't be a lot of support for him if he was trying to fly the Soviet flag. Everyone should be allowed to express themselves however they want but being a veteran doesn't make him special and above the rules.

You mean there are consequences for breaking a signed contract? Who'd have thought? As usual people like to twist stories. It's pathetic.
