You go to the desk, ask "May I please buy a pack of durex ultra safe condoms" and she'll charge you £3.
ALTERNATIVELY, go to a drop in session or an INSIGHT club, or even a GUM Clinic, and they'll give you some for free. Don't bother buying them. It only takes courage.
Self checkout at the markets is cool, as well. Or you could buy them in Cinema Toilets.

Go to some family planning centre, they give loads for free. Just ask politely. They'll understand you're nervous because they get it everyday

I live in the UK too, but have never bought condoms from a supermarket or whatever but here's some tips.
1. Use self service, most big branch supermarkets have self service these days meaning no one knows what your buying.
2. Toilet vendors, all the local tescos near me have condom vendors, this way no one sees you.
3. Just take a box and walk to the checkout, technically shop assisstances should not be telling anyone items you purchase.
