So, the school is "giving" students laptops and I just got mine. I'm trying to transfer all the information and stuff from my PC to my mac using the migration assistant, but it's not working. Here's what I have so far:
Latest software on the mac
Migration assistant downloaded on the PC, and installed.
Both computers connected to the same network
But nothing is happening. Please help me!!!

Hey.
first off, what version operating system is your mac running? direct transfer from PC to Mac is only supported in 10.7, or lion/latest version.
I've never used the assistant before, but I believe you need to connect the two computers via firewire or USB.
I'm really sorry if that doesn't work, because i've never used the assistant before :(

You could also use a flash drive or external hard drive to transfer the files you want, if you give up on that migration thing.
Personally, I wouldn't trust a school computer. But that's your choice.

Have a look at this. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4796)
There might be something wrong with the way your computers are connecting your your WiFi network, so i'd suggest trying one of the other Migration methods. You know when you installed your internet, you should have been given an ethernet cable, which looks like a fat telephone line. Try that method.
I'd recommend going back to that page I put down and following the guide step by step with your options. You could try connecting both computers to the router via ethernet so in a way, they are 'forced' to recognize each other. At the moment the problem seems to be that the Windows Computer isn't detecting your mac, so you might need to do some troubleshooting to make your mac shown; it could be a hidden device in the network, which cant be seen by Windows.
Damn, you're so lucky to get a mac. I wish my school weren't cheap.

Suggesting the OP use a different method is counter-productive. The OP was not looking for an alternative, just a way to help her problem. Kind of rude, don't you think?

Lol, actually my school is pretty cheap: they just negotiated and happened to get the best deal from apple since they're buying in bulk. The most ironic thing about it all is that the school is ideologically against a lot of what apple does, so they're so cheap that they're selling out their beliefs to get a better deal.
And thanks guys, I'm getting the job done now :)
