You have plenty of time if you start now(ish). If you asked me, I'd say to go and experiment with as many new things as you can.

You don't need to be as specific as cats or be as vague as emotion. You can start from something like straight lines, patterns or juxtaposition, maybe cracks, droplets or motion and see where that takes you.

What they'll be looking for is a progression and consistency in your work, not just artistic presentation and technical ability.

Is this for an AP portfolio to go in for review? If so I would advise against something like flowers and cats, my teacher showed us some example portfolios which had similar subjects and they didn't score very well, although the photographs were nice.

The AP board wants to see your best efforts, so whatever you pick make sure that your subject matter is clear and consistent throughout all of the pieces.

I think old barns can be cool, and the same with street shots. From the examples I've seen, if you can really pull of whatever you're going for, then you'll do well for sure.

I'm juggling around the ideas like fashion photography (portraiture), landscapes and city scapes/street shots. I'm not sure which, but I think I might go with the portraiture, it's something I've always enjoyed doing.

Julie: I've spent half of the day looking at your photography, and it's really good. I've been on tumblr looking, and nothing compares to yours or anybody's work I've seen on this site.

I'm new, so I cannot sent you a PM. I'd like to ask you a question about some of your work. If you can't or don't want to, I totally understand haha.
