Well. I know there's probably a ton of threads about homeschooling.. But my situation's a little different. I'll (hopefully) be a high school senior in the fall. Senior year, all that fun stuff. However, I've got a medical condition that affects the pain levels in my body/joints/nerves. Thus, sitting through even part of one class is tough, let alone a whole class/school day. I'm currently on homebound with the school, meaning I work with someone the school assigns me 2-3 times each week for an hour, and that's almost impossible for me to do without dying of pain. I've kinda though a little about homeschooling, and I know my parents have too, though we've never said anything about it..

I know pros to it would be I'd be able to work at my own pace and there's more of a chance I'll actually get the work done, and I'll feel better.

However, cons I know would be motivation, and missing out on senior year, and being with my mom all day.. and that's the big thing.. My mom and I already have a rocky relationship, and being home all day for the homebound education is awful. And it's only been for a few months.. let alone a whole year.. Since my dad works outside the house, it'd be her 'homeschooling' , and I don't know if I or her could take that.. I'm already going insane being around her and her rude comments to me all the time.

So I guess my question really is are there any other pros/cons or even solutions, cause it's not really looking like returning to school in the fall is an option.

Thanks :)

That's a toughie Val. If it hurts maybe the principal can tell the teachers to allow you to roam around the classroom or do what you need to to stop the pain for a little while and then refocus. I am sure they can make some sort of an accommodation for your medical condition. Homschooling is a bad option if you ask me. You will miss out on senior year! The parties, the ditch days, prom, and graduation. I don't see how else to put it.

Good luck!

You aren't missing much on senior year. High school is lame, the last year doubly so, though I understand being with one's mother all day is about as lame.

Schools usually can accommodate. Homeschooling sucks. I've did some online classes for college and while not exactly the same thing it just sucks. A good teacher makes material interesting and easy to digest and paper/online stuff does neither, and I'd expect your mother wouldn't either. The first time I saw my Latin Literature teacher was at the final exam.

ps : if your medical condition is assessed and proved by a reliable diagnosis and the school does not want to accommodate you it can be grounds for a lawsuit, depending on the effort it would take them to give you these accommodations. If you don't require more than they can reasonably give you then they will have to give you breathing room to avoid the lawsuit threat. I don't know what you need but you should look into that.
