I was just wondering what everyone thinks about Gun Control. Personally, I think Gun Control is terrible; not allowing anyone to have a gun is not letting them be safe. If everyone was allowed to have a gun (be it rifle, fire arm, side arm), we would all be safer. People's houses wouldn't get robbed.

I think no guns create less violence in america. If no one except the army men had guns or lethal weapons, the world would be a non violent place. My family does own a gun for protection, its in our save, we havent used it in forever though.

I don't understand you people. If someone draws a gun on you, and all you have is spray or a knife, you're dead. If you have a gun and draw it on the person, most likely you are gonna life.

I think that guns do not create violence. Just look at Canada. The death toll caused by guns is below 500. In the United States is over 11,000. Violence is caused by the many movie channels that scare americans into buying guns to protect themselves!

I think everyone should have guns. Everyone that can use them responsibly. People are not educated about when is the right time to use guns. They all think, "o, i got in a fight with her, so i will kill her".
That's what gives guns a bad rap. And those kind of people need to be dealt with and have no gun rights at all.
Also, look at Gangsters. They all have SMGs and they think they they can shoot each other up just because they don't like someone else. That is the problem. But if you get good, mature people that have guns to protect themselves, hunt etc. then i think that is ok.
I do not think it is the movies that scare the people, it is the horror stories on TV.

hmmm...
I guess by strict tests. I guess you can never tell who will use them in a bad way. Im kinda stumped on that one.
But, i also think that guns are WAY too easy to get. So...
Jesus christ, i cant think of anything...

the only way to do it is to have all crimes involving a gun to have a minimal sentance of death. yes it is wrong to kill another human being, but does the criminal care about you if your at the other end of the barrel? seriously. the only way to really stop gun problems we would have to wipe out all sources of guns. and we just cant do that, impossible. make it illegal to buy guns= people make their own guns, more dangerous to themselves and others and untraceable, and people selling illegal arms skyrockets increasing organized crime 10 fold like during the prohibition

guns just bring more viloence. How are you going to shoot someone if you don't have the gun. Of course people can get it off the black market, or hunting shops, but it's s till a hell of a lot more limited!

Like I said guns are not the bad guys. Its the people who use them. In Canada more people own guns. But there is way less violence. In america people are scared. Its no doubt. People are scared of the "black man" people are scared of getting rapped and mugged, kidnapped, killed in a tornado, hurricane, earthquake, hit by a meteor, or boiled by global worming, the green house effect. The more the media and commericals scare people into buy their products you will continue to see murder on the street. I think that america is too scared to have guns.

Michael Moore raised an interesting point in 'Bowling For Columbine' - that it is a culture of fear and paranoia that causes the relatively large number of gun deaths in the US, when compared to other countries with similar policies on gun registration and control.
No matter what controls are placed on gun ownership, the real wackos intent on killing someone with a gun are still going to do it. A large point of extensive gun control is to prevent the ordinary citizen from mishandling their firearms, like using them while not in a sensible frame of mind (during an argument or somesuch).
In Australia, anyone can really get a gun - but you have to attend a short course on responsible ownership, get a license, and show that you are storing the gun safely. This either means in a gun safe, or padlocked in say a built-in wardrobe with the ammunition in a separate, locked cupboard. This prevents anybody from getting quick access to the gun, even if they have the keys: meaning the only shots that are going to be fired are the well-aimed, calculated type.
As for protection from the nutjobs who are determined to do illegal things...the police are the ones to call. Seriously, if someone is already in your house and in a position to shoot you, having a gun within easy reach is probably going to give them more of a reason to actually go through with it.
