I've recently noticed that any time I'm on a thread (not just ones I've created, or those in my diary), I always have the option to "edit tags." I don't see any other tags when I see this. Is this a mistake?

You can make tags for search functions; however, most people don't add tags to their threads.

I think it has always been this way.

I never use the tag feature because I don't see the point in it to be honest.

Tags are a feature used to quickly search for a particular subject. While perhaps not the most used feature, they are helpful now and then for quickly searching things.

You can edit the tags because this feature is "community moderated", in a way. If you disagree with the tags, just change them!
