View Full Version : Women and Shaving

Those two words usually go hand in hand, doesn't it? Now, I don't see anything wrong with shaving but it seems that quite a lot of women do it because they are pressured to by society under the social stigma of having body hair. There is nothing wrong with body hair, but people are under the impression that if you shave you are more sexy.
Now, I ask you, do you believe that body hair is really all that big of a deal on a woman's body? I believe that women should be allowed to do what they want with their body hair. If I want to sport a huge bush, I think I should be able to do so without being viewed as a gross dyke or something foolish like that. What do you think about shaving and the pressures put on women to do so?
Before its brought up. I understand that women also shave because they feel cleaner and believe its a hygienic thing. So do I, which is why I tend to shave regularly but I don't feel that I HAVE to shave or I'll be gross or something.
Opposing viewpoints are welcome. I don't care if this has been posted here a thousand times. I looked and I didn't see a thread like this within the last five pages so I figured I could start a debate over this issue. I also don't care if you think this topic is stupid, just don't reply to it if you have a problem with it~.

The reason girls shave is because no/little body hair is feminine, whilst hairy bodies are masculine, that's the culture that has evolved.
I shave because it looks better and I feel better with smooth skin. Hey, if a chick wants to be hairy, fine by her. She shouldn't be put down by it. And she'll find a partner who's into that. But most women shave because it's feminine. If somebody doesn't want to, that's okay too.
Same goes vice versa for men and shaving.

I don't really care whether a woman shaves or not. I mean sure, armpit hair is a turn off but I mean so what if a girl has hair on her legs? It doesn't really matter. Girls don't even have much bodily hair any way. They shouldn't have to go through the excruciating pain of waxing. Yikes.

I suppose women go through waxing, shaving, tweezing, etc., etc. because it's a view of society that excessive body hair is unattractive. The belief is, I suppose, the less body hair someone has, the more appealing they are
If women don't want to wax or shave, that is their choice and I commend them for not conforming.
However it is my opinion that body hair is unattractive on both men and women, and I believe that shaving and or waxing should be practiced.

If I were straight, I would want my girlfriend to shave her armpits and her legs.

Well, I shave because I just don't like the look and feel of being hairy. I think that hairy legs are just gross so that's why I shave them, I really like the smooth look of shaved legs. As for armpits, I think it's just more hygienical to shave them. When there's hair there's more room for the bacteria to grow and it adds to the smell. Not to mention that it's gross to see sweaty armpit hairs in the summer.
That's more or less why I shave, for myself, not for anyone else.

Shaving started as a protest for women's suffrage, so at the time it was started, it was actually seen as something bad to do. Funny how times change.
It's a personal choice, I don't care either way if someone shaves or not because there are different reasons as to why/why not. Some shave because for vanity, some just to be at a societal norm, some who simply hate the feel of it on their skin and even some people who have to because it can irritate super-sensitive skin (though it's rare). In some parts of the world, women shaving is seen as disgusting because it makes them appear more child-like since hair is a mark of adulthood.

I dislike having body hair, I would get used to it if I couldn't shave (like when i was having urges to cut and I didn't allow myself to...) but I think that its tickly all over when I have body hair. I don't know, I guess its unfair to say either way whether or not a person should shave.

I can't stand having body hair. I definitely think that women shouldn't be pressured to remove their hair, but I personally shave because it's more comfortable.

Like you mentioned, and many others, women have come to shave their because it has became a societal standard for women to have smooth bodies, or should I say feminine people to have smooth bodies. I don't see why a woman should have to shave, I think it's a personal choice.
I don't like my body hair, and keep most of it off. I think some women look better with body hair like I think some look better with out it. How ever that doesn't mean I think they should have to shave it or keep it.

I shave because if I don't, I feel gross. I don't like hair.
As for anyone else, I don't mind a little hair. I hate armpit hair, but not leg hair ( unless you have really, really dark thick hair that it makes you look like a man if you don't shave it ) or arm hair. I like a little hair down there on others, I don't know why. It just feels cool. :P

Personally, I dont care if a girl shaves, it should be her decision. However, i find it strange that girls are pressured to shave, but its seen as almost weird for guys to shave. I think if theres gonna be social pressure, it should towards both genders. But yeah "hairy" girls dont bother me at all.

I let my hair go sometimes in the winter. I usually don't let my legs or pits go to long but my bush is another story. I actually think its sexy to look in the mirror and have some pubes. Abnormal have you ever let it grow into a bush?
