View Full Version : Is depression a turn off?

I'm wary when telling people about severe depression I've had in the past. If someone let you know of some serious depression in the past, would you be turned off of a friendship or relationship? Would it change your opinion of the person or how you act in their presence?

Pretend you're romantically interested in someone and you learn about depression in their past. Would you still be attracted to the person on the same level? How would your view be affected?

Why would someone be turned off or even turned on if they were depressed or not. You also said it was in the past. But it shouldn't matter whether it's past or present. Just because someone is depressed it shouldn't mean that it should turn you on or even turn you off. I mean. It's one thing to get turned on from a cow masturbating. Love is love and nothing should change because of the person's past. It's what's on the inside that counts. The personality. Not how horrific or glorious their past has been.

My little brother (not really, we're just really close) has depression, and when I found out about his depression it didn't really change anything. In fact, I'd even say it made us closer.

Human's have a want to protect and help others. Themselves aswell obviously, but also others. I don't see why this would change anything for the worse.

Exactly what I was thinking. My opinion wouldn't change, not in a negative condescending looking down on them way, at least. If anything it would make me look out for them and care for them more, if you were going out with someone then you'd want to help and be there for them, right? Especially if it's in the past, nothing should change and if something like past depression can "turn you off" of someone then you need to become a little more accepting of who people are/were.

Definitely not. I would not look down on them or change my opinion.

I have severe depression and have had it in the past. I know how it is. I would not judge someone because of that

I know it wouldnt change anything. I would want to help them and show them more love and affection if anything. Depression doesnt last forever and it most certainly isnt a turn off, its only a small part of that person

I've told two guys that I've been seeing before that I have depression and went as far as to tell one I cut, neither changed in their behaviour at all towards me, if someone genuinely likes you they really won't mind and I know I certainly wouldn't mind.

If its past depression it shouldn't matter but if its current if the person supports u its a sign of true love

I don't think that something like this from the past can change anything for me.
