i made a post the other day about my urge to self harm and a few people gave me some really good ideas on how to distract/stop myself from self harming, so i was wondering if anyone else had any ideas? it'd be extremely appreciated.

You could listen to music, read, go out with friends, exercise/run, cook, draw, paint, take photo's. Honestly different things work for different people and you just need to find the one that's right for you. Do things you enjoy and always keep yourself busy, it's the times when you're doing nothing that the urges usually get stronger.

My personal favourite distraction is writing or something like pampering.. If I feel the urge to self harm, painting my nails keeps my hands busy and my mind occupied, taking a long hot shower to relax myself and to make me think more calm and logically. Face mask I also find a bit of a laugh, so its good to cheer you up :P I hope some of these have been useful, obviously there are all the conventional ones too, exercise, reading, music, relaxing its just on what you personally prefer

I find it hard to use the usual distraction methods; music, exercise and such. I usually call one of my friends and talk for as long as possible, by now they've got used to me ringing them at stupid-o'clock at night and saying, "distract me please". That's really the only thing that distracts me, and even that doesn't work all the time..
