I just wanted to put this thread up to ask how people dealt with either having cancer (like myself) or how they dealt with someone they knew having cancer.

My dad was diagnosed with cancer the beginning of my 9th grade year. He was extremely positive throughout the whole ordeal, and was actually more of a rock for me. He's fine now and in remission. I think having a positive attitude will help wonders, and having positive people around you. I hope everything goes good.

My mums mum died of cancer when I was 5. I freaked out, mum told me that when I was in the hospital with her just before she died, I saw her soul leave her body. I wouldn't stop pointing at her saying "Look mum nana's gone, she's gone." it was surreal for everyone. I was only young so I don't really know much about her, just what my mum tells me. Apart from her, there was a girl in my school that died from cancer, she was only 13. No one knew she had it which was sad, but we has a memorial service thing for her. I guess this isn't a happy "dealing" with cancer but that's the experience I have.

Ok, I want to talk about my dad but I'm on my iPod. So next time I have a computer I'll write a little more.

Here is how I have learned whilst dealing with patients who have cancer.
Do not treat them any different than you would anyone else, all they need is a friend.
Make every moment you have with them count...I wear an ankle bracelet made for me by an little kid, she was my first cancer patient I cared for in the pediatrics ward...she liked getting letters so i would write her one everyday and have it there waiting for her when I started my shift. She was very mature for her age and she was one who i could sit down with chat. Most of the time I would bring my lunch up and we would have lunch together and watch a show on the television. She was a wonderful inspiration to me.
One morning I walked in with my letter. I would leave it on her dresser for her to wake up to but in its place was a white envelope with my name on it. She died earlier that morning and wrote me this letter along with a ankle that she made and a wonderful, heartfelt letter.
I wear it to this day and I am crying as I am typing this.
