Don't cut. I know it is hard but please don't give in. You made it so far :) Try to listen to music or go for a run.

Sometimes when I feel like cutting I try to get rid of the desire to do it by punching my pillow and shouting while I listen to loud music. I've tried loads of the general suggestions that people always make...flicking an elastic band against my wrist, drawing red lines in pen where I want to cut etc...but none of this has ever worked. But personally I find that the tension that builds up in me when I feel like cutting gets released by punching something and shouting - I'm still taking it on something just not myself.
That might be worth a try to take your mind off it x

Personally I believe that if you stop for anyone other than yourself you won't stop for good. You need to make sure you're doing this for you, not your best friend.
I find distractions do help to an extent whether its going for a walk, listening to music, reading, writing, phoning up a friend to talk. Then of course there's techniques such as holding ice to your wurst, snapping an elastic band or drawing on your body in red pen.
However in the long term to stop you need to find some things which make you happy, I spend a lot of time out with my friends personally or watching TV with my family and stuff. Just small things that make me feel less lonely.
If you need someone to talk to, I'd be happy to listen.

Try setting small goals, like a week, or a day if its really tough. Then set rewards at the end... whatever you want, whether its going to see someone, a film you wanted to see, going swimming anything. Just dont look at thinking I'm going to keep going for a year, because it'll seem to far off and you wont get there. Just take it a little bit at a time, and reward yourself
