over the last few months i've been getting aches just below the left shoulder in the area of the heart, but sometimes the aches move  and sometimes its under the left nipple and in other places in that general area. the aches aren't there all the time and sometimes i can go weeks without any pain. could i be about to have a heart attack at 13?

You could be at risk, since it does reoccur. Does your family have a history of health problems? Are the pains reoccurring after no stress or may they be caused by something (stress, exercise or when you get surprised)? Are you overweight?

How long has this been going on? If these aches are reoccurring and haven't gotten any better over a long period of time, see a doctor. We don't want anything to happen to you! :P

up until recently there was no heart history in our family, but my grandma died a month ago and the doctor put it down to a heart failure. it seems to occur randomly but i do stress when it happens which probably doesn't help and i'm not overweight.

Since it's random and reoccuring, I think you should go to the doc!

Yeah, I get those sometimes. You should go to a doctor, but a drink of water usually helps it go away for a little bit.

The left side of your chest is where your heart is located and some people who suffer heart attacks do experience sharp pain in their left arm and throughout the left side of their chest. It's a good thing that your family history does not show a reoccurrence of heart failure. However, there are other issues that may arise in the heart that steam from other factors. If you can, I'd also advise you to find out your family history of high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Both high cholesterol and high blood pressure are related to heart problems, ranging from heart attack and stroke to complete heart failure. It is advised to get your blood screened along with your visit to the doctor. He/she will take your blood pressure, if it doesn’t get taken, make sure you ask it. Normal blood pressures for kids your age range between 100/50mmHg and 115/75mmHg. If your doctor believes there is a problem with yours, he/she will tell you. Your blood profile will take a couple days, as the specimen will be sent to a lab for reading and further testing. Your total cholesterol levels should be greater than 100 and less than 200.

OMG! Well i had chest pains too at that age. but i was maybe 12. but yeah. IT HURT REALLY BAD! usually chest pains are assosiated with heart attacks but i never got one. well one time it hurt soo bad that my mom took me to the ER and then they couldnt find anything that was related to my heart. they took x-rays, EKGs and all of this other crap for like 4 hours. they said that it may be hormones or something i really dont remember but they werent sure. i dont get these pains anymore but it was very scary. im assuming that you have the same thing and i think that you should stick it out but if you think that its really serious or completly unbearable the go to the ER. but they lasted a year for me.

probably not. You'd be dead by now. Are you left handed? Maybe it's a muscle thing, maybe your strained/ripped/tore something, strained it?

Regardless of what the cause is, pain is something that should be checked out, especially if it comes and goes (but never leaves fully).

since writing this like 4 days ago i haven't had it. but i should clarify that i'm not getting sharp pains its more of a feeling of uncomforte in that area, and sometimes its below the breast region. if it keeps happening i will be straight to the doc. thanks for your responses.

To be honest it sounds like you're just having cramp in some of your muscles which is normally caused by not drinking enough or not taking in enough salt. I doubt it's anything heart realted because heart related problems normally occurr in the same place each time.
