How do you write a song? I've never really completed one whole song cause i could never find good chords to go with it or I only get like one verse done and can't think after that. Any tips?

You do the melody first and build the lyrics around that. It won't work if you do it lyrics first. Write about what you know, don't write load of bullshit you can't even relate to down, your passion won't come through.

Alright i get it but I've had some friends who wrote the lyrics first then come up with everything else. same with a lot of bands. but I'll try this

I usually have a bunch of melodies and a bunch of lyrics floating around. Most of the time, none of them fit the way I'd like to, so I usually wait until something comes to me that is just perfect. I find most of the time when I try and make something work, it sounds forced and doesn't work for me.
I would say though, that starting with a melody and building lyrics around that is a solid way to write songs.
Good luck!

Depends what genre of music you are looking towards. Generally though you get a melody down and branch off from there.

Yeah generally I get the melody down first too. I guess it depends what you're really looking for in the song. I know my boyfriend writes lyrics first and music after, but he is an incredibly talented lyricist.
For a beginner it is much easier to begin with the melody first. I often find that once I write a melody, it inspires the lyrics :)

Well personally I do not write music, but I really want to start! I think that you should begin with the melody first, as personally I listen to the music more than the lyrics and the lyrics will be far easier to fit in once you know the melody

Haha :D I love singing in the shower.. So everytime I take a bath, I set up a recording device near me, so whatever I sing gets recorded and I could listen to it later and make some improvements ^_^

sit down with your guitar and you'll come up with stuff but as a guitar player myself i always thought guitar comes first then lyrics but after writing with friends i figured that lyrics at least the chorus ALWAYS comes first its easier that way

Well this is what I do -
Keep a notebook of all the lyrics you come up with. guard with your life. I use the voice memo on my phone even - like random thoughts.
Know your fretboard - learn barre chords - now the chords you pull at the start is just to get a piece togther - develop little runs of notes that can fill in = Good command of languag and even get a thesaurus so you get all th ewords with the same meaning yeah.
but keep all the random lyrics you have in a book.
I might have 2 or 3 songs on the go at once then interchange lyrics - acoustic guitar is best
even just strum thru the E C G D or D A Em and see where that takes you. play just the A D G B strings even that can be good to - I am not great at guitar but love it

Melody first. Could be the vocal melody, guitar melody, or whatever. It's always easier to fit words to sound than it is to fit sound to words.

I'm a lyrical person. I usually write a verse first that comes to me, then I'd pick up my guitar, work out the chords and the melody and continue writing along the way (:

I write raps, ad I've only gotten lyrics so far. I can't make beats cuz I don't have software yet, but I'd just rap it without a beat and edit it to flow with the beat.
