(totally not on here because I'm having techy issues that google is a pain about)

I have an LG Octane, and long story short I got pushed into/fell into a creek that was hip deep. With my phone in my pocket. In basketball shorts.
Yep you better believe it got soaked.

It worked for a bit after, then I took the battery out (while it was still, yknow. WORKING. because I didn't want to short it)

Um. I was getting an error message that was saying "damage to SD card you may need to reset it"

I don't have a removable SD card...

Do I need to copy out all my contacts and reset the thing to factory settings, or something, or just let it dry out fully and pray?

this isn't even the first time my phone's gotten wet. It's just the first time it's been submerged.

I'd try letting it dry completely (In a bag of rice preferably) before factory resetting it. It's possible there's a bead of water connecting two of the contacts on the SD card slot, making the phone think there's a card there when there really isn't.
If it still gives the error after a few days in rice, then there's a high possibility of physical water damage.

Darkness.

I would do both, copy all your data onto your pc and put your phone in a bag of rice.

Good luck.

Oh I was too slow.

Yeah it's sitting in a container of rice (airtight, so same end result) and is staying there until tomorrow afternoon...

Also, the strip thing on my battery that's supposed to be the water damage indicator *has* in fact turned pink. Very vividly at that. Does that mean anything other than "i void'd my warranty due to water damage"?

Aw, it's okay :) it's still helpful.
I actually plan on transfering my contacts to my iPod touch's contacts list so it's backed up on another handheld device
Just.. really hoping that I didn't just destroy my contacts list...

(yes, I have an ipod and a texting phone. I am NOT paying for data for an iphone, sue me)

Nope, that pink indicator is just there so if you tried to send it in, they would know it was in water. It doesn't exactly indicate anything is wrong, though.

Okay. Just double checking. I think my warranty is up anyway so that doesn't matter too much to me.

I could be wrong/have been on crack, but I remember reading somewhere that there was something you could expose your battery to, to turn that indicator back..

Pretty sure you were on crack, seeing as the indicator isn't on the battery, but on the phone itself. ;) :P

I've had three phones with water damage, one I was pushed into a pool, another left in a flip flop outside overnight and it rained, and another go through the was. I put them in the oven at 100 degrees, let them sit there for an hour, all good! Oh and when time came that one actually broke a few months later, blow dryer, peel off the sticker and take one off moms phone.

Don't heat up your phone. That normally ends up terribly. Rice is the best and easiest way to go.

Silica Gel in sealed conditions works well.

Normally with those indicators you can put a few drops of bleach on them to make them white again, I did that on a friends phone that he dropped into a pool since they won't repair it under the warranty if it has water damage usually. Just a drop or two on the little strip and wipe it off after about 30 seconds then just repeat a few times and you can make it look white again. ;)
