I think it can change people for the bad. Especially if they are young or a teenager. Because you have everything that you want at the tip of your hands. Like drugs and alcohol.

If I want to snort coke and get wasted on a Saturday night, I don't need to be in Hollywood to do so, so I don't really think that is massively important. But I think Hollywood can change somebody for the better or the worse; it depends on what crowd you hangout in, the kind of person you are, and what your status in Hollywood is. It could go either way, and I don't really think that there is a way to tell. Give somebody like Natalie Portman a look, she's well behaved, doesn't do bad things in public and is pretty likable I guess, but then we have our Lindsay Lohans of course as well. So it could go either way.

I think the drugs, alcohol and sex scene in Hollywood would be the same as with any other industry environment. People like us in society tend to glamorize them because they're the ones that contribute to our 'pop culture' and are often viewed as being the ideal people in the ideal world.
Of course, you could argue these people in the spotlight would constantly be trying to set the latest trends or gain more attention than somebody else.
I think Hollywood changes people for both good and bad. It isn't the sole driving force behind these personality changes either.

Depends on who the person is, and who they surround themselves with. That applies to anything, not just hollywood.

When was the last time you heard a story about portman "being good" in public? Oh, never? Most stories are about all the people who do stupid stuff, and get coughgt.
I reasonably think Hollywood is a bad influence because it makes teens want to be Barbie dolls, and makes lots if people feel inferior.

Exactly :P There are no stories about her being good because that's not what the tabloids care about, but there are also no stories about her "being bad", she was just an example, a name that popped into my head.
But I believe that Hollywood can influence people to do good once they are in the national spotlight, or even the global spotlight. A lot of celebrities do good for society because they've been put in the position to do it. But at the same time a lot of them party hard and get high because it's too accessible for them. I see positives and negatives.

Hollywood is just a place like any other when you really get down to it. Just because there is a stigma to it doesn't mean the person is going to automatically change for the worse. Anywhere you go could have an affect on you it just depends on the actions the person goes through with at the time they are there. Ultimately it's the said persons judgement not the location.

By think we're talking about Hollywood as a location. We're mostly taking about Hollywood as a group of people, good or bad influences.
I would say its got A stronger Negativity influence, simply Because its far More publicize when someone does something terrible as compare to sve d a kitten or something.

You're right it is more publicized but that doesn't mean right of the bat if I went there I'm going to become a drug addict? Besides, I don't firmly believe this place will change you for the worst. Yeah, I know we're talking about the influence the people there will have on you in otherwords conformity and peer pressure issues. You get those wherever you go, it comes down to whether the said person is going to act poorly on it or not.

I think some aspects of it can be a negative influence, but, ultimately, everyone has self control and can make their own decision. I think the media portrays all the negative in Hollywood because frankly who wants to read about Kim Kardashian taking out her trash? I want to read about Lindsey Lohan getting in a fight with a drag queen who she hired as her double. ;) Both of those were fake stories, but seriously society flocks to the outrageous and interesting.

As a person who has never been chased through the streets of Los Angeles by paps, I have no fucking idea.
I guess it really comes down to the person. Hollywood doesn't make you do drugs and drink all the time, that's your decision. Some celebrities use their fame and wealth to help people, others use it for personal gain.

I think that- and you can disagree and think whatever you want of me for this- that a person would have to be extremely shallow and insecure to allow Hollywood to influence them like that. However, it does happen, and I think that a lot of people are influenced by it, and lured into behaviors that are not perhaps the wisest choices.

Hollywood isn't exactly as influential as people think they are. Honestly? Some people will eat anything up if someone tells them to but that is the fault of the person who buys into the stuff that Hollywood is putting out there and showing them that they could do. As human beings we have the right to reject things and just say "no, I don't want to be a part of that. I want nothing to do with it" but there are some people who say "that's cool. I want to be a part of that right now" and most of the time they say that without even knowing what they're getting into. Their mentality is "if Hollywood does it, I can" and that's bad. People need to stop thinking like that. So, no, Hollywood doesn't change people. People allow themselves to be changed and that isn't necessarily Hollywood's fault.

Oh, are you asking if Hollywood influences the consumers or the celebrities?
If you're asking if Hollywood influences the consumer, then yes, I believe it does. I think that all forms of media influence our culture, in some way.
If you're asking if the Hollywood lifestyle changes a person once they become a celebrity, then no, I don't think it does. That's up to the person.
