Iv never riden metro but i havnt been too happy with amtrak. i have taken it a couple times and every time they run hours late. They told us we would get free subway sandwiches for free because of the long delay. All it was was a piece of bread with a piece of cheese in it.

There both completly different. Amtak is long distance and costs more. I take metro noth from ct to nyc alot and theres a train every 45 minutes, but only a few to the city from farther destinations on amtrak

I agree with Teendude, you can't really compare them too much. Metro-North is more for Local/Express service, while Amtrack is for Express/Long Distance. M-N is less money. M-N go into Grand Central, Amtrack goes to Penn.
Also, M-N I believe is only in the tri-state area, which would be New York, New Jersey and Conn. so probably won't get too many comparisons anyway.
