Why do people bully others, its just not right, the only reason people bully others is because they dont know how to control themselves!

People bully others for multiple reaons. It could be that by picking on others and making them feel bad about themselves it boosts there own self-esteem, it could be that they've been bullied before and just want to feel in control again I guess. I don't think you can state that the only reason people bully others is they can't control themselves. In most cases bullies know exactly what they're doing but I suppose it can just get the better of them I guess, sometimes they might not even realise they're doing anything wrong and they're unaware of the consequences of their actions.
It's sad that people feel the need to bully others. It could be that they feel lost and alone as well, sometimes they need help and someone to talk to and understand them just as the victim of the bullying might. Other times then yes, it could just be out of spite and hatered but they still need someone to listen to them because obviously they have some reason for acting the way they do.
It's funny how sympathetic that all came out since i've always been on the recieving end of bullying but there you go I guess, my opinion anyway.

Insecurity, peer pressure, bad home life.. A number of reasons, really. Bullying is terrible, but I also feel sorry for the bully. A lot of the time, the bully is going through a really hard time too.

We're not saying that everyone with a bad home situation or that have things going wrong in their lives are/will become bullies. All I was trying to say is that some people that do bully do so because they are misunderstood and just want someone to listen to what they have to say. People react to experiances in different ways and we all have different ways of coping, something might work/be effective to one person but might do nothing for another. I'm not saying bullying someone is a good way of dealing with the @#!*% that happens to you, it's a very bad way but you have to remember that the reasons that they had must have been bad enough to want to make someone else feel miserable just to get the smallest bit of satisfaction out of that.

Bullies usually hate themselves more than the people they bully. That doesn't make bullying okay at all, but it does mean that we shouldn't be so quick to give them such a hard time. They're probably already having a shit time at home.

Not everyone who has a bad home life becomes a bully. It's just one of the common contributing factors. There could be any number of reasons.

A lot of bullies do it because it's the only way they know how to treat people. I know that I've gotten in trouble for bullying people a few times, even though I would never intentionally hurt someone else like that. I also know that a lot of bullies are really insecure and need to feel superior.

Sometimes people feel like they are weak, or they just want to prove something to the world so they just become bully's, there are many different reasons.

It can be for a few reasons...people bully others because they could be jealous of that person for some reason (they're popular, well-liked, smart, athletic, come from a well-to-do family, etc.) or the individual doing the bullying has low self-esteem and feels that by bullying others, it makes them feel powerful or better than others.

I have no sympathy for the bully!!!!! I was bullied my entire life and absolutely wanted the bully to die!!!!! They nearly made me lose my life! I have never and never will have sympathy for bullies. And what makes it worse is that schools do nothing, physiatrists don't help me, all the action has to be taken from the other side and it drove me insane! I felt so hopeless

Because some people are sadistic assholes. However there are other bullies who have been abused and bullying makes them feel in control and makes it so they aren't the victim. It's a way for them to cope even if it is wrong.

I'm glad that the state of New Jersey is cracking down on school bullying. It's not just the Dharun Ravi thing; if you google the name "Lennon Baldwin" you can see that the same thing happened again.

I can be proud in the fact that I have never bullied kids smaller than I am. My parents raised me with some actual values. :)

I know it's hard, especially when you're on the opposing side to the bully and always have been but try putting yourself in their shoes. Be a little more open minded and I know you might feel as though they don't deserve it but think about what they could be going through. Everybody has their own way of coping. Some people take drugs, alcohol, self harm. Others hide away and keep things to themselves, people drop out of school or skive/skip. Then you have some people that bully, sometimes they have no idea how bad they make things.
I'm not saying that any of this makes what they're doing right. It doesn't, not in any way. It can ruin peoples lives or change them for the worse but have you thought about how sometimes there could be two vitctims involved? The bully might need help as well, ignoring them and feeling a hatered towards them will make nothing right.

It makes them feel better about themselves. Boosts their self-esteem and they can prove to themselves they have a sense of power of others.

Well it depends on how the bully goes about it. They know how to control themselves perfectly. I'm not going to say the bully reasons are even justified. They are not. No matter how bad it is for them, they have no right. Saying that however, sometimes bullying can happen without the bully even realizing s/he is hurting the other person. But if they carry on after you have made them aware what they are doing is hurting you. Then they are doing it with the intention of causing stress, for whatever reason.

Bullying is a terrible thing and can cause long lasting psychological damage if it isn't dealt with in an appropriate manner. (I would know)

The bully might need help as well, ignoring them and feeling a hatered towards them will make nothing right.

It may make nothing right, but it's perfectly normal to feel hatred toward them, and to be honest I don't believe they deserve help. But i'm just incredibly bitter.

I completely understand how you feel. I've been bullied and outcast my entire life. However, I think it's important to try and see things from the bullies perspective. Why are they bullying people? They must have a reason for it, I suppose they struggle just as much as I do.

I can never understand why someone would want to inflict such pain upon a person, although when I confronted most of the bullies who picked on me, I realized they didn't even mean it! Thankfully my school doesn't have any bullies and it gets taken very seriously if it does occur.
Some of my friends said that I can be a bit of an asshole to them sometimes so I immediately changed my attitude. But as others said, bullies do what they do out of insecurity and often they are "bullied" at home and feel as if they have to take out their feelings on someone.
