Ok, so I am a seventeen year old male, and I am thinking about joining the Navy, should I? I REALLY need some advice on what I should do, also post the pro's and con's of the Navy, and if you would join the Navy if they offered you a job! Please respond quickly as I have a meeting next week, with my local recrutier, to talk more about it, and get more info, and possibly sign with the U.S. Navy!!!! :D

That'll be cool. I don't think we can really answer that for you, you should research on it and do some serious thinking to see if that's right for you!

Well, I have considered wanting to be in the Navy before. Would you be able to kill people, even if for a good cause? That's one of the main things about being in any military body...

if you want to serve your country and you feel stong enough about it then i would say go for it. If that is what lights you up then i would say join. I have a few friends in the US Navy and they enjoy it. They say that the hours were shitty when they first started and the pay isnt that great. they are also away from family and friends for long periods of time. They enjoy it though

If killing people, blowing up others' property, moving far and often, and running the risk of dying is your thing, then by all means, go for it.
You should just know that real life is not Call of Duty. You know that disclaimer in CoD and it's "M" rating? It was put there for a reason. There is no "health", "lives", or "restarts". You get hit, you die.

Its the navy, you just work on a ship. Only the commanders have any say in what the ship does

Oh, and that reminds me: if you don't like what your commander/superior tells you to do, you have to do it anyways. Even if you don't agree. Even if you think it can be done differently. Even if it will cause problems. Even if the ship will sink. There is only one way to do things, and that is the way you were told. "My way or the highway".

Personally even i am going to enlist in the military(Im gonna to the army and become a sniper) i would not go to the Navy unless i was becomeing a Navy SEAL which i cant do because i dont think i have enough will power to do it. All the navy basically is: you sit on a ship and fire big ass guns(105MM-120MM) at land based targets. If your lucky you'll be on an aircraft carrier which in that case you would be launching plans. You have no control over what happens on the ship only the commanders do.

Thomas i can not thank you enough for this post. Todays biggest misconception is that the military is just like Call Of Duty(I do play my share Call Of Duty). In real life you DO NOT get more lives once you get hit your either discharged if you dont die or your dead. I have so many people telling "Im gonna go to the army because its gonna be just like Call Of Duty." thats when i have to sit there and tell thm about how different it is. Te Guns arent the same as Call Of Duty...But im not gonna go indeppth about that because ill write a whole page about it.
But its your call. if you want to do it go ahead and do it nothings stopping you. But if you do remember. Real Life IS NOT like Call Of Duty.

I used to be a sea cadet. It was alright but all the standing around at attention during inspections and the officers telling people what to do did make me feel a bit uneasy. If you are ok with being told what to do and when to do it then the armed forces are for you

He's trying to stress to you that war isn't all about shooting, killing and beating the enemy. I don't know if you're realizing the emotional and psychological toll war can take on you. A lot of people who go away to war have that attitude - the attitude that they're a good shot, so when they go overseas and kill some terrorists that everything will be okay - but what they don't realize is the fact that they are taking life away from human beings, and life is trying to be taken from them.
If you get deployed you'll be exposed to death, loss and extreme danger. You are your fellow troops will be totally dependent on one another; dependent on eachother doing your jobs and duties, and doing them perfectly, all of the time. If you fuck up, you're not only putting your life in grave danger, but you're also risking their lives. This is a massive responsibility, and I can't imagine that living with the fact that you possibly could be responsible for your friends' death being something easy to cope with.
A lot of things that happen at war will stick with you for the rest of your life, and bad memories/flashbacks can really put you in a bad place.
All we're trying to say is try to look at the idea as a whole, not just the fact that when you hike into the woods you get a few bull's eyes with your pistol, or the fact that when you go to the range you do fairly well with a rifle. War is a big emotional and moral responsibility; so before you get sold on this idea think it through and make sure you hit all of the points.

I know that war sucks.. my motivation to go to the military is 1(Do what my dad couldnt and 2(Defend the country i love so much(except the president...the president sucks) I know what risks are i know all the things i could lose. But i know that if i succeed that i could possible be one of the most deadly weapons implemented. Snipers are one of the keys victory. A sniper can take out a threat from 600 yards away with M24 sniper rifle(Remington 700 .308 Win.). I want to be able to do that and help my country make it to victory. I cant sit here and accept the fact that i did nothing to protect this country. As Isaid before I under stand the risks and i realize all the things i could loose but if i succeed i can 1( Save many lives and help the country to victory and 2(Get out of the military go to school for Metal Work, Wood Work, and gun smithing. and then be a very happy camper because i could be doing my favorite things. Making guns and makeing money. Any Questions?

talk to a recruiter they have answers to almost any question. if you do join go to college and do navy ROTC. youll graduate as an officer (i have no clue what you would be commissioned as) and make money and not get crapped on. And if you do ROTC they pay you a monthly allowance. (again not sure how much army ROTC starts at $250 a month) Plus if youre not planning on making a career out of the navy, college, being a commissioned officer, and having experience as a leader puts you way ahead of the competition in the civilian world

There's something I would think that you of all people would know about snipers. And that is that they don't go shooting people willy-nilly. Snipers usually have a target, and once they...err, neutralise that target, they have to escape as fast as possible because people will come after them in a matter of seconds.
Sniping is used to eliminate very specific, often high-ranking people.
By the way, do you know what it feels like to have your life in danger? Perhaps you don't know, or nobody has actually told you, but post-war experiences aren't always the best ones. Look on this site. You will know exactly what I mean.

I know about snipers i know about what they do. I shoot all the time with ex snipers and they have taught me alot. I know the requeirments to get in. and they dont always go after high ranking targets. Those are special forces sniper not a regular sniper. Regular snipers sit there for days and pick odff anybody that could be threat. Research the topic of snipers in iraq it will tell you that they usaully just pick off threats. Ive read all about it and ive heard all about it. And having my life indanger. I cant say i have but it would really suck. And snipers dont always get chased after. half the time the enemie doesnt even know where they are.

My dad is an ex sniper. He's traveled with Marines, and he was trained with SEAL snipers. Snipers do shoot important people that need to die, but there are very few instances where that has been done. There is not very many high-ranking people that need to die that a sniper has killed.. Picking off threats is more like what they actually do......These are my dad's exact words--> "Snipers cover their team, providing protection. They shoot a threat if it is seen, and their team doesn't see it."
