im at the point that i want to tell her

There is a girl from school, I like her. I have liked her since I met her at the beggining of the year. Even though it wasn't "love at first sight" I did like her. We are kinda sorta friends now and she may or may not have picked up on my feelings. I have wanted her to know, but didn't want to tell her, if you know what I mean. Im at the point where I just want her to know one way or the other. How should I tell her? I want to tell her how I really feel and what I think of her but I don't want to sound desperate, I don't want to just say, I like you and leave it at that or it might sound like I don't care that much. I want to tell her in person to see her reaction but I think I might choke up. If I tell her on facebook I might look like a coward but then I know I can look over the message and make sure I hit all the points I want to hit. What should I do?

You say: ''Look over the message and make sure I hit all the points I want to hit.'' Like you're writing a speech. So do just that. Get the proper words down you want to say, go over it repeatedly, and memorize it, and say it in person rather than on Facebook. Just a short explanation on why you like her this way. Make sure you memorize and not read the paper in front of her. Though not necessarily bad, she'll think of the moment differently.
