so tomorrow i'm getting my first perscribtion on zoloft filled, 50mg stronger than they usally start you, anyway, i had a whole assesment done, and thats the drug they think i should be on, but i can always still choose prozac,
gettting to the point, as i've posted before, i have a drinking problem, and was wondering which one is better..well thats not the right word but, better for taking them when drinking alchohal. i know its dangerouse to even drink while on any anti dressant but its not like i can just stop,m so any help would be veryyy helpful, i've alreay looked it up but havnt found which one is more dangerouse.
thanks!

I was on Zoloft 50mgs for a month then had a terrible relapse when I self harmed myself...but it's a medication that's primarily used for less severe depression. Prozac is for people who have 'can't get out of bed' depression. I'm guessing your depression isn't that bad, as that's the reason you're on Zoloft instead of Prozac...
You're so right. Drinking while taking anti-depressants is a very, very dangerous thing to do. It messes with your mind and can cause bizarre side effects that you will not want to experience ever again. No lie. I recommend that you tell the person who prescribed you your drugs that you have drinking problem, so they can do what's best for you.

well i'm not on zoloft yet,
i have clinical depressan and gererlized anxiety disorder, i'm guessing the anxiety is why they choose zoloft, but i know drinking is dangerouse with both, but i refuse to go on any other drugs than those two, so i just want to know if the mental effects are greater on one drug than the other when it comes to alchohal. i've heard that some people with zoloft jsut dont take the pill the day they drink but i donno

from the 'danger to mental' POV i'd stick with zoloft. i overdosed on 10 pills of zoloft..that's half a gram of that stuff and the doctors said it could have been a fatal dose....but my mental has fully recovered..so....
i just found this on rxlist...
The largest known ingestion was 13.5 grams in a patient who took sertraline hydrochloride alone and subsequently recovered. However, another patient who took 2.5 grams of sertraline hydrochloride alone experienced a fatal outcome.
^^zoloft's generic name is sertraline hydrochloride :/
for prozac
The largest known ingestion of fluoxetine hydrochloride in adult patients was 8 grams in a patient who took fluoxetine alone and who subsequently recovered.

yea i alreday know all that stuff, i'm not worried about becoming suicidal when i'm drunk and on the medication, i just dont want the medication to react badly with alchohal and have seriouse repercusions

Maybe it would actually help if you tried to stop drinking. Like telling your doctor your problem and try to fix it.

Well i know people that drink alchol with like oxy and hydrocodone and they are fine. However with anti-depressants im not sure what the dangers are. If you dont want to call your doctor then just call poison control and they will tell you if there are really big dangers. But keep in mind they will ask you like 50 questions like "do you know someone thats going to overdose" and crapoda like that. but i called one time and I got my answer in like 5 mins so yeah. oh and the number to Mr. Yuk if you chose to is 1-800-222-1222 (i have memorized it becasue im a babysitter)
Good Luck!

ya...don't do what rudi does
the only person i've ever seen that can absorb drugs and alcohol like rudi is brad
the two are insane
Everybodys diffrent like rudi said
but you have to be careful hun
me for example......lets just say it wouldnt be good....entertaining but not good
I know one girl that ironically enough is in university as a psych major shes on anti-depressants and she had half a beer and she OD'd
then theres rudi who seems okay with it
or brad....the dude was hit by an 800lbs metal plate right on the head crushed every bone in his face and STILL didnt knock him out
they gave him enough sedatives on the heli ride to the hospital that they literally could have takin down a buffalo and he was still thrashing
ya....glad hes my friend
My point is everybodys diffrent
so you HAVE to be careful!
please hun

Talk with your doc about it. Explain about your drinking and how it will be very difficult for you to stop drinking immediately.
I think he'd give you instructions or advice on what you absolutely shouldn't do and try to give you sort of safety net type things.

your doctor WILL tell you not to do it at all, so ask them about the RISKS and how liekly they are.

a shrink, no less (yeah, I know), and I've heard him say many times that no alcohol is good with SSRI's (the 2 kinds of medicines you're describing). They all basically work the same way, so the brand doesn't matter so much.
Talk with your shrink about this, but I think he'll tell you that you need to decide if you want to get better, your get drunk.

Careful not to use the 'I can't stop' as an excuse to continue. You should be talking with your therapist about that, maybe come up with a strategy to control the urge, or do something else instead of drinking.
Again, ask yourself which is more important, getting better or getting drunk.

yea, its not exactly the best idea to be drinking while taking either one of them.

I thank you all for your help, but i cant take any of your suggestions,
i'm not seeing a theripist, i've tried it, its not for me, and what i meant by i cant stop is that theres litteraly no way i can cut down so fast in time to not mix with the medication,.
on of the things that come along with my depression is not wanting to get better, so i'm not in the state of mind to pick getting better of anything

Then you need to explain your problem to the person who wrote the perscription for you, as anti-depressants are surely not OTC.

Since they are both processed in the liver, it's my (non-expert) opinion that it would be equally taxing for your body to drink while on EITHER pill. I don't think there's an either-or answer to this question. No matter which pill you're taking, if you're drinking too, you're putting yourself in a fucking stupid situation. If you get drunk, it's absolutely possible that you'll die of liver failure.
Good luck with that

i dont understand why you cant stop drinking. People who have been addicted to alcohol for decades can quit, youve probably only been drinking for a few years. Seems very possible to me.

lol obviously i dont have to point this out, but, i'm stubborn. 1. i'm saying i cant just stop drinking all of a sudden, and i'm getting my pescribion filled next week. and also i dont want to quit drinking, yes i drink too much and i'd like to majorly cut down, but i'm not quiting any time soon.

that says you're wanting to feel better. The next step is making the long term committment to permanently feel better, which wil mean making alot of lifestyle changes, like quitting booze. Sorry, you're 'being stubborn' isn't an excuse for not doing it! Good luck with the meds, i hope you give them the chance!

Addictions and dependencies are difficult to stop immediately. Going cold turkey is possibly one of the hardest things to do with any addiction. Considerably cutting down on the amount you drink is a positive initial step.
Speak with your doctor about it and then together you can come up with a plan of action to help you get the help you need.

Thanks for sharing but that really didn't require a bump and you didn't even answer the question.
