I have had some different reactions from my friends and I feel that they think I am a bit spoilt. I have grown up with European made cars which include , BMW 3 series, BMW X5, Mercedes CLK 320, Volvo XC70, Volvo XC60, Porsche Cayenne and so on. I was looking at a lotus for my first car, sure it is around $64,000 but me and my dad have a deal. If I pay for half of it, he will match it. So I think that the lotus is a bit to expensive for a first car so what are the thoughts on the new Hyundai Velooster+ . I just want a really sporty car that has a bit of speed and grunt

My first car was 7 grand. I think it is pointless to spend anymore than 10 grand for a first vehicle, no matter how much money you or your parents have. Either way check out Subaru, Mazda, I know you said european but Dodge has a couple nice ones...

Instead of buying a European car, why don't you just buy a Mustang or Camaro or something. They are fast, look cool, and aren't as much as those European cars.

For the life of me, I will never understand why parents will let their kids get a car that is that expensive. There is no reason for it other than show and what happens if you wreck it? Well maybe you have insurance but there's always a deductible and for a teenager and that expensive of a car that insurance cost will be so high, you won't have money to cover that deductible.

Personally, I'd never want to even pay that much on my own. You're about to drop 32k on a new car? There's a lot of stuff you could rather do with that money. I don't find the need for a teen to that kind of car. A new Civic is one thing, but a Lotus?

A Hyundai? I'd rather walk.
The Veloster though makes me think the Koreans have lost it (Well, the South, we all know Northern Korea is stuffed). Two doors on one side and one on the other?
Weird in my opinion.
Seriously, if you're going for a hatch, skip Korean altogether. Although I'll admit reliability and quality have gotten better, I'm still skeptical that they can make a good car - ie. something that isn't just an A-B car.
If you don't like cars, sure, go Korean. It will do everything you ask. But if you like cars, European, Japanese and even dare I say American make a better car for someone who's looking for more than just an A-B transportation device.
Just my 2 cents, no offence to any Hyundai owners.

My dad bought the Hyundai Genesis 5.0 Rspec and LOVES IT! At first he was a little skeptical about hyundai and was originally looking at the lexus LS460 but couldnt justify shoveling out close to $70k for a car. He was looking for a reliable rear drive, V8 powered full size sedan. He saw a commercial for the Genesis Rspec and fell inlove with the price and the fact that it has more power and better handling than the lexus. And the best part is the Genesis was $25k cheaper than the lexus. Plus you cant beat the Hyundai warranty. The funniest thing is when he takes clients or friends out, they think it is a lexus or a merc or something. haha. I will agree that originally i wouldnt consider Hyundai but you have to admit that they have made a HUGE step forward with quality, design, and attention to detail. Take a look at their new Equus (competition for the S class) and a hell of alot cheaper than the LS460.

I'm glad you replied. It's interesting to find out Hyundai make a car that could rival Lexus, as well as even a V8. Here in Australia, we get models such as the ix35 and ix45, Santa Fe etc. They're a perfectly fine, inexpensive car, but (and I risk sounding like a dick here) they lack character. I do think though that given time, the Korean cars will be up to par with others on that front.
My dad was telling me how when he was growing up, Japanese cars were a joke much like Korean cars are seen. These days, they can keep up with European cars.

Thats why my dad was really hesitant at first until he went and drove it. I went with him to the dealer to test drive it and i was in shock that a Korean car handled that well and had that much power! Its no M5 or AMG by any means, but for a price of around $45k, it really is one hell of a deal. And if im honest, its not a bad looking car. In the 5.0 Rspec trim, it an extreemly well equipped car. It even has radar guided cruise control. (which is fun to mess with cause it slows itself down with out the driver touching the brake and then speeds back up). My dad is extremely happy with the car and recommends to everyone to look past the Hyundai badge and actually look at the car. When you look at it, it is the best bang for the buck large powerful sedan on the market with out going into the European super sedans. And i say again ONLY $45k!
Now i sound like a Hyundai salesman. Haha

Trust me, even if you can afford a $60k car, buying a cheaper one and then just driving the shit out of it is WAAAAYYY more fun. With a $60k car you are gonna have to be careful and not get a scratch on it. Buy a new RX8 or Mustang or F150 and modify it so its fucking awesome.

Haha, it's alright. I don't mind the look of the car, but that grill doesn't nothing for me. I have been comparing it to my mums car, but it's a bit unfair because as you said, Hyundai undercut pretty much any other car in that area with price. However, I wouldn't be so sure on that warranty. It says that wearable parts aren't covered by warranty, this includes the drive train and steering components.
This rings alarms in my head, but I suppose it will determine on your dealer.

In terms of looks, I would take the Veloster. I think the car is actually pretty good looking. In terms of power though, it only makes 138 hp, and uses the same engine from the accent and elantra. However, the turbo with about 200hp comes out soon and is gonna start at around 21k. I think that would be the way to go.

Wow lucky you, eh? A lotus for your first car? I don't think that is too good of an idea. First of all, thats a lot of torque in a small car. Unless you have some experience driving that may cause you to get into an accident. Even if you have experience, if you live in the US or Canada you would know that gas prices have doubled over the past 10 years and are still getting higher. Im guessing the Lotus has a V8 or V12 engine which would drink gas! I hope I helped. Also, for $64 000, why not get a mercedes C-Class? From what I remember, the C-Class has 400-600hp. I don't know what you are looking for but that is a lot. Good luck.
