How to start a facebook convo

I want to talk to someone. We are not close friends but yeah... We say hi in the corridor and he catches my train but we never talk outside of school or anything. I want to talk to him on FB without seeming weird or creepy by saying "Hi, how are you?" or "What you up to?"

When I try that he usually ignores me :(

Are you in any of the same classes? Ask about homework or just start up a conversation about something that happened in class or if something big happens at school then bring it up first. If i'm honest it shouldn't be creepy asking how he is, that would be the usual conversation starter. Why does he ignore you though?

Unfourtunately we are not in any classes, that might change after the summer. I think he ignores me because I try to talk to him so much, or maybe he just left his computer on.

he might just find it awkward now, I know when someone sends me a lot of heys, hi's etc and I don't reply and you can see all the unreplyed too messages then when I do actually reply it's really awkward. Maybe wait till there's something you need to ask him, or until he has a relevant status you can maybe comment on.

other than that I guess just keep trying.
