I had a car accident about 5 weeks ago, and Im only just starting to get well enough to start exercise again. I need to do 'soft' exercise to get into it slowly again.

Fitness has never been my strong subject, I just used to cycle a lot, but I haven't got a bike atm, so I just wondered. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

After my crash I got into a fair bit of swimming, it's always a good place to start, just pace yourself and don't expect to start right where you left off.

Start off small and gradually try and increase the exercise as you feel fitter.

I definitely agree with swimming. Don't try to start immediately with lap swimming or anything but slowly build up to it when you feel comfortable. I would also recommend walking for as long as you feel comfortable, and then slowly build up to jogging and then running but take it slow. You could also try very light weight work, but again, only what you feel comfortable with. I recently had surgery on my rotator cuff, so I know what you're going through. I know the lack of exercise may be frustrating, but try to understand that rushing back into your normal routines can be dangerous. Take it slow and build up gradually to your previous activities.

Wall sits don't damage you much.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I agree with slow swimming, but honestly the best thing that is the easiest is just walking. Don't over do it, start small and increase over time.

When I broke my leg the first thing I did as soon as my bone was strong enough was swimming but only 10 minutes a day for a week before increasing it by 5 minutes a week then I started cycling, first on a BMX which is easy then on my mountain bike, which took me a year to get back to my full strength..
