Texting girls... What, when, how and how much?

When I text girls, I'm scared I talk too much to them because a lot of them ignore me. How much should I be messaging them and what could be other reasons they ignore me when we text? Because face to face, they seem to like me a lot and we are good friends, but quite a lot of them ignore my texts and we don't have very deep conversations...

What are good conversations starters?
What are good ways to maintain conversations?
What are good ways to not get ignored?
How often/how much should I message them?
What are good ways to develop the conversation to make it deeper or more interesting/meaningful (turn it into a DMC)

Any other tips?

Additional details: A lot of the chats end up being around school which is obviously quite a boring topic so how do I change it from that?

Yeh same with me girls hardly respond. i usally sometines wait for them or to start sonething i ask something like"do u like this person" or things like that. aak the questions they cant ignore. Also if u use skype send messages relating to their status updates. i did that a while back about a girl who was pissed at another freind of hers and she responded by this "NO" and then she called me but i couldont respond. I was on phone and parets were around. im still trying to work out wht she called me but anyway. do things like this..
