So, I have a really bad habit of going off and on my medication for depression. For the first week I'm off it, I feel great, and most days I can shake the feelings of sadness. But after a few weeks, I start to feel suicidal again. I hate taking them. They make me feel like I'm not capable of being happy on my own. Like I'm a failure. It makes me sick. I don't want to be floating through grey. I want a heartbeat, not a flatline kind of life. I don't know what to do. This cycle isn't working for me...

Almost 1 in 4 people have depression and require medication. It's more than you think!

Taking meds for depression is nothing to be ashamed of! Your brain is just not producing enough of certain chemical signals, causing depression. The meds are just filling-in for those missing chemicals, easing the depression. That's all :).

Having said that, going off your medication so suddenly is obviously going to screw with your neurons or whatever, causing intense depression (therefore suicidal tendencies). You've got to keep taking your meds! Missing your meds once a week would be ok I suppose, but going on and off them all the time can't be good for you.

Sorry to go all Dr. Phil on you :(.
