This is a very good point. There is a difference between loving a friend and being in love with a friend. I would class being 'in love' as having a very strong emotional, romantic feeling for a person. While loving somebody doesn't need to be romantic at all.

Well, I'm gay and my best friend is straight. I care about him a lot; we have known each other for years. But I wouldn't label it as love, it's more like a bromance.
