I've just wrote an e-mail to my mom that I have Depersonalization(Derealization). She lives 1300 miles away in another country but we keep in touch and I tell her everything. Well, to be fair, almost everything. I still haven't told her that I self harm and I'm afraid of making this step. Should I tell her that I cut or should I skip this because my mom is also having some mental problems?

Personally, I think you should tell her. My mum is bipolar, so I understand that you don't want to add onto her already existing problems. As you said you tell her most things, I do think this should also be something you tell her. She deserves to know how you're doing and how you're coping.

Wow, thank you. I'll think over telling her. But if she understands that she was the reason for my first cuts... I think that's going to hurt.

She doesn't have to know that. In fact, it's probably best that she doesn't know that. I say just tell her. Get it over with and it'll probably be good for you.

You don't have to say the reason, that's private. As long as she gets the gist of it you'll be okay. Good luck. :)

Thanks for the support. So I told my mom. I wrote the letter and clicked on the "Send" button. She replied this morning but I guess she didn't actually understand what is happening. As I told you, she also has some mental problems and I'm not sure if she actually knows what I'm talking about. Nevermind, at least now one adult is informed that I cut. :)

I suppose that's a good thing! Even if she doesn't really understand what you're talking about there's always the possibility she will one day. Either way, it's good that someone knows, it feels like less of a burden on you, right?

Well, yes. That's right. Its like the more pople know the more I am determinated to stop. As for my derealization, mom says I can go to a therapist which is great! I mean, I could tell the therapist about my SH which will completely carry away my burden. Thank you Derkhead and other VT users for supporting me because I wouldn't have taken this important step. :):D
