The child's parents told ABC television network affiliate WPBF they believe they were targeted because they are of Middle Eastern descent and the mother wears a hijab.

"We were put on display like a circus act because my wife wears a hijab," the baby's father told the network.

An airline employee boarded the Newark, New Jersey-bound flight before it departed Tuesday evening, telling the family their toddler was on the federal list that includes thousands of known or suspected terrorists.

JetBlue on Thursday blamed a computer glitch, saying employees followed proper protocol. The U.S. Transportation Security Administration says the girl never was flagged by the agency.

A statement read: "We are investigating this particular incident. We believe this was a computer glitch. Our crew members followed the appropriate protocols, and we apologise to the family involved in this unfortunate circumstance.

"JetBlue takes all security concerns very seriously and the safety of all of our customers and crew members is our number one priority."

The family was cleared to reboard. But they declined, saying they were too embarrassed.

I think that, while it was somewhat ridiculous, people have to stop calling everything racist. If one person beats another person up, it's assault, but if it's a straight guy beating up a transgender person then it's automatically a hate crime. Some people need to calm their tits...

Here's a brilliant idea. Why don't they put the date of birth along with the name of these suspected terrorists on this federal list? Then you wouldn't have to worry about 2 year olds sneaking on a plane with explosives in their underwear.

Idiots.

Actually to be fair, a parent/guardian could have put explosives in a childs underwear. The airport were only following procedure. Yes it was an unfortunate mistake but they have to be careful.

People get mad when somebody unlikely to be a terrorist is accused, but honestly, I don't think somebody would be dumb and go all stereotypical terrorist. They'd probably do it in the way you'd least think of. I don't blame airlines for having a stick up their ass, I would much prefer that than die.

To be fair, I have a fear of airplanes and don't mind the extra security. Would rather that than slack.
