In a post I just read,Eric said he'd been a cutter for 5 months and a carver for a few years [tired/on phoneso maybe otherway round/typos]
Whats the difference,if thre is one in your opinion. Not trying to be ignorant:)
Also I know it helps some, but isnt snapping an elastic band onto your skin SH? Way I do it hurts like fuck ,does it not let people carryon hurting themselves rather than stop?
I do cut sadly,so I'm not ignorant to these things, just unclear.
Thanks

I believe carving is when you carve into your skin, like a word or figure. Such as carving the word hate or loser into your skin.

And with snapping an elastic band is self harm, but it is a lot lesser form i think. It helps for those who want to quit cutting. Snapping isnt dangerous i dont think

Cutting= lines, carving= writing or drawing.
Snapping rubber bands is supposed to wean you off of cutting, even if it's being replaced by another, lesser form of SH. Doesn't work for me though.

Cutting is creating an injury in your skin by pressing/dragging something sharp into it.

Carving is the same method, but purposely creating a design or words.

Snapping a rubber band on your wrist is, in technical terms, self harm. But, in my opinion, it's such a small form of it that I don't consider it to be. If it keeps you from cutting, then it's fine by me. But if it gets to be a point of new obsession, then I'd start worrying.

I wouldn't necessarily say that snapping an elastic band is self harm it might be technically but if you compare the marks you have left from cutting and the marks from an elastic band well chances are unless you've used an elastic band within the last day or two you have no marks, so because the damage is so temporary I don't call it self harm even though technically anything done intentionally to harm yourself that leaves damage past an hour is usually construed as self harm.
