View Full Version : Looking (a lot) younger than my age

hi boys and girls,(i already apologize for my english, i'm from the french part of canada so my english isn't that good)

I have a problem which is getting really hard to live with the more i grow up. as the title says, i look a lot younger than i really am. I am 18 years old, but looks like I am 13-14. This isn't the way i see myself, I really look this young. I'm smaller than everyone at my school, i'm not large, didn't grow facial hair, anything.
Just to give you a quick exemple, i'm went to make an application for a job this week (we can work at 16 in canada, don't know for other countries) and the girl answers: ''sorry we don't hire people under the age of 16''
And this is one of the reason why it became an issue. The other reason is relationship. Because let me get this straight, a girl who looks younger will be seen as cute, and boys don't care if their girlfriend looks younger than them. However (most of) girls mather. A 18 years old girl won't date a 18 years old guy that looks like 14. And it's like this since... well forever. it always have been this way.
All of my friends are like ''Derek stop it, you're cute and everything'' but the fact that everyone look weird at me at school, the fact that i have a lot of difficulty to find a job and the fact that girls don't take me seriously has got my self-esteem pretty low... and well i don't what to do (is there something i can do? ¬¬)
now PLEASE don't tell me ''when you'll be 40 you'll be happy to look younger''
people have been telling me this since years and i've grown sick of it

feel free to share and/or give advice, anything will be appreciated

Theres no problem looking young, I'm 19 but people think I look 16. Thats good for me cause i don't wanna look old lol. But with the job why didn't you show them id to prove it? About the dating just go out there and don't matter if the girls think you look young prove them your not.

Don't worry i get out my id's to show them my age. But any boss will prefer someone who looks older than someone who looks underage.
as for girls, even if they knowthat i'm 18 they dont want to go out with me
that's the problem.
I've had girlfriends, but i know that a couple of them dumped me cause i looked (and still look) younger.

Here's how life sucks,
in canada there's a minimum age to buy energy drinks, which is 16
i'm going to buy some and the guy asks for my id's -___- come on normally people ask for my id's when I buy alcool (legal age here is 18), not energy drinks ¬¬
so tired of all this U_U

edit: might go see a doctor... I'm seriously starting to think that i have a problem which kept me from developping correctly...

Use your looks to your advantage, I always find that girls want to "mother" me as I look younger than I am. Also get on buses/trains for child fare instead of full fare. Have fun, your only young once

yeah already get child proces when i go to cinema or places like that XD
and thanks for your advice with girls i'll try that, would be neat if it works.

ps: the reason i'm thinking to see a doctor is also because my little brother is already taller and larger than me. people often thinks he's older, something's wrong here

I have a friend in this situation, and he was also telling me how he dresses to look older and I can see it when we go out. He was saying combining dark jeans with a button-down shirt works, and I agree. When you buy jeans and stuff, go for fitted styles and dark colours, not torn or anything too casual looking.

You should get a girl friend to go shopping with you to get their opinion. My mate said you might also think the stuff are too dressy just for like a casual party or something, but you'll get used to it.

Id should work for the job and if a girl is just judging you on your looks then there not worth the effort

The job is the easy one, I think. Why not send them a resume or application letter so they already know a little bit about you before you get there, or leave it with the staff or something before actually speaking with the manager? Then they might already like you even before they meet you.
