Every poem I have ever seen on this forum, no, ever, I have ended up giggling at and been unable to take seriously. I don't know why I hate poetry so much, but I just find it so ridiculous. I'm not much of a reader by the way.

Well, probably because (and I'm not trying to insult anybody here) 99% of poetry is SHIT.
Or you can't empathize with the subject matter, so you don't understand the poem...

As a poet, a writer and a singer I can say that you'll have shit loads of crap no matter what your into, however, saying that most poetry is shit, is a little harsh. I understand that some people have no sense of rhyme scheme, cannot write real poetry to save their life and like to stick to shallow topics, however, some people put alot of time and effort into their poetry. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's all crap. ~Holli

I can see this turning into a brutal debate. I actually don't like poetry either. I try to but just can't get into it. Maybe I'm one of those people like Holliblood described. On the other hand, there have been some poems I've seen sometimes that I really like. I liked some of Emily Dickinson, and the modern Australian poet Bruce Dawe. But generally I feel like it goes over my head.

Because it isn't poetry what people write here. People simply trying to attract more attention to be praised and they do that by trying to write nice little words bunched up together.

It's okay to dislike poetry, I'm not saying that's wrong, however when you classify all works, like Azunite, then it gets annoying. I spend hours modifying and working on my poems, and they may not be the best, but they express how I feel. if I were looking for praise and attention, I'd look elsewhere instead of posting a load of crap. Sorry if I sounded bitchy  ~Holli

Excuse me if I misunderstood but did you just say that 99% of all poetry is shit? Are you saying EE Cummings, Robert Frost, Jacques Prevert, Edgar Allen Poe, Arthur Rimbaud, Charles Baudelaire, Victor Hugo, Paul Verlaine, Rene de Obaldia, and many many more, (With your logic) are shit? (Also there are many unknown authors who aren't shit, and they do not make up 1%) So either you are exaggerating or... also just because one doesn't understand the poem does not mean they cannot aknowledge that the poem is good.

People who aren't into poetry because all they think of is the classics should check out Dorothy Porter's The Monkey's Mask. I already said I'm not really a poetry fan, but I liked that. Suits fans of crime thrillers and lesbian scenes, too!

maybe because you don't read a lot and you probably don't get why books have themes, how authors can lead one chapter into another, and etc. For a poet, you have to understand that stuff. You have to get into the zone, and just rhythmically express your feelings about something. You just may not be able to express your feelings easily. Not everyone can. It took me a while, until I was about in 6th grade, but if you look at some things I post and my last blog (June 2nd) you'll see how good of a poet I am now. It's all about knowing how to get into a zen and just wlet it melt onto your paper...

Because poetry isn't your hobby. To us poets we take it seriously because we want to improve our poetry because it is our hobby. Same as for your own hobby. You'll be more serious into your hobby than people who aren't a big fan, and we will view you same as you view us poets. But you should be respectful to any hobbies, because it's rude, and not nice. It's like me bashing on your hobby. So at least be respectful, if not, don't read any more poems.
