I've always thought you had to eat a certain amount of calories to lose/maintain/gain or whatever, but it doesn't necessarily matter where the calories come from?

Most know that you need to eat around 1,200 calories to lose weight and roughly 2,000 to maintain weight.

Here's a scenario of what I mean. Basically if someone ate around 1,200 calories everyday except Saturday where they would eat around 2,000 calories. On the 1,200 calorie days they will eat mostly healthy foods, but on the 2,000 calorie days they will eat whatever they want (chocolate, fries, cookies, etc) but making sure they don't go over 2,000 calories.

Will this routine work? Or will this 2,000 calorie day full of junk food stop that person from losing weight? 2,000 calories is the average amount people need to eat to maintain their weight, and since they're not going over 2,000 calories it won't make a difference to the 1,200 calorie days they've succeeded with on the other days in the week.

Does this even make sense? lol

The Twinkie diet I presume is when you eat the stipulated amount of calories in any form ..junk allowed.. Many ppl do suggest to stay away from it because you never know when it can go wrong. I do however diet with saddening results. Being a boy I consume about 2300 calories but I think I'm still gaining. I do create a deficit by jogging etc. that does help. Cheat meals once a week is good. It helps stabilise metabolism.

I just googled the "twinkie diet" and the name of the diet came from a college teacher who lost 27 pounds from eating junk food to show his class that it's the calories that make you lose weight as opposed to the nutrition. Interesting.

Not that I would recommend that diet or would go on it myself, but still...wow.

it's the calories that decide if you gain or lose weight, 1kg of (body)fat is aprox 7000kcal (while 1kg of fat is 9000kcal) so if you eat 500 less calories then your body uses every day you will lose aprox ½kg/week.

every 1cal if 4.18 joule which is the amount of energy that is required to heat 1g of water 1 degree/K

if you only look at what causes weight loss/gain it will be the calories, it dosen't matter what you eat. it will of course be easier to lose wight eating normal food contra chips and pizza as they contain more energy

remember it's better for your body to gain it's energy from different resources, so you don't end upp with a shortage of something the body needs.

Not exactly ED related.

I put it in the ED forum originally cos I thought ED people or ED obsessed people would know more about it.

I see what you mean, but this is the correct section for a post like this. If you think about it, having this in the ED section basically provides a guide to cutting calories and losing weight. It's not the type of post that would be constructive or helpful for their cause, so we want to keep things like this out of there. It's counter-productive and can really fuel the fire.

u are correct, the calories can be taken from any place but depending on what it is will depend on if ur able to maintain ur muscle mass as well. a dude did another video to show taht supersize me was kinda full of crap, he ate fast food everyday but each day he would only eat so many calories and walked everday, in which he lost 25 pounds in a month. thing is though u need like 40-60 grams of protein each day to help maintain ur muscle mass, if u dont u could see a drop in weight since ur muscles would kinda be shrinking. best to just eat 2000 calories from healthy things and workout so ur body burns calories and u get into great shape by building more muscle. more muscle=more calories u burn at rest lol

Yes I do know that and to be frank everything in that forum is triggering. This thread is hardly as triggering as most of the threads that get posted their on a frequent basis. If you were to remove every thread that was "counter-productive" as you call it then you would be removing 90% of threads in that forum.

Anyways, back on topic...

I always wondered why the guy who did that supersize me documentary didn't get fat...lol. But yeah I know it's best to eat healthily but for people who have trouble with eating healthy 24/7 then still eating junk food but eating within a calorie allowance would help. If I was trying to lose weight it would help me a lot, healthy food is just eugh.

Well in the end of it all this is where the thread belongs. If you have anything to say about a moderators decision you can take it up in a PM.
