As an atheist, I get this shit all the time.

Why should I have to disprove the magical man who cannot be seen, heard, or smelled?

I can fly when no one is looking. It's on you to prove me wrong.

I have a baby unicorn in the palm of my hand that only I can see. Prove me wrong.

See the pattern?

Proove yourself correct, [Insert cult here], then I'm in.

I agree that the logic of people like that is flawed, but why is it such a big deal? Don't shove it in their faces, and if they do then tell them to kindly fuck off.

Yeah, religion is pretty stupid isn't it.

Religion is a term with great potential power but since nothing belonging to a religion is proven, it can be used in both ways. Use it wrong, and you'll wage war on others and cause catastrophe. Use religion right, then it will be something which will form cultures and unite nationalities under one banner and gives people a great motivation.

Remember the last thing I said. Ignore the religious people who bash you because you are an atheist, but stop bashing religious people too who believe in something.

See us people who have a religion get this shit all the time too.

I mean, people laugh at my beliefs(I am a New Age Raelian). I can proof it to you, but you have to experience the Ashtar Command yourself!

See us people who have a religion get this shit all the time too. Recently, I saw a man burnt alive by a group of people.

Why? Because he has different religious beliefs then them. He committed no crimes, he just had different beliefs.

In a world without religion, there would be no prosecution against people who believe in something vaguely different than your own god, and that man wouldn't have burnt to death screaming "Jesus help me!", would he?

That's what faith is....believing in a God or higher power without needing proof! I get told that exact same thing by atheists all the time, you don't understand what faith is, we don't need proof. This is what we believe. (I am catholic) (I did not intend to classify people into groups when making that statement so if I did I apologize)

You know, you really make me wonder if you are serious, or just messing around.. because really.

All I see is you talking about how much religion is a terrible thing. Yeah, it's done some shitty things, but also, the Second Great Awakening helped people get that final push to end slavery. (inb4 GOD WANTS SLAVES!!1!!) But it also helped with the temperance movement which was a bust.

Anyway, back to the topic, they honestly shouldn't have to tell ask you for proof that religion isn't real if you didn't say something like "religion isn't real."

like i have said before, tired. may not make sense. oh well.

Och, aye, religion is so terrible...
Go learn your history, kid, without the church we wouldn't have civilization as we know it today. Yes, some dumbasses have done stupid things in the name of God before, but blame people for being stupid, not the names that they label themselves under. You don't have to follow it to respect it. Just because they want to believe in something doesn't mean you have to try and drag it away from them. In all honesty, what they believe is far more worthwhile to believe than anything that you're talking about.

While I don't exactly like nor practice religion, I have to agree that without the church, or religion as a whole, throughout history that our civilization would be very different today. The Pilgrims wouldn't have even came over here, because they wouldn't have been trying to flee the country due to religious persecution. I don't and most likely will never practice a religion, but it has shaped our civilization a lot throughout history.

Civilisation would've been different, but I don't like how people assume different means worse.

I wasn't implying worse, just very different from what we know and what we are used to. It could be different for the better or worse.

The problem with a lot of religions is that it is outdated.

Religion is based on faith. Faith can be defined as complete trust or confidence in someone or something. You could have faith in anything there is no proof but a book that could be written by anybody. You could have faith in God, purple leprechauns, invisible flying dinosaurs, or the Invisible Pink Unicorn. There is no proof for or against it.

Like I have said.

Thing religion as a trillion dollars.

Use it well and the world will flourish.
Use it in a bad way and you'll have dozens of tanks and nuclear missiles which will destroy the world.

It's humanity's fault that religion is destructive.

I'm an atheist but I have no problem with religion whatsoever. Its the person who makes the person not what you label yourself as. Anybody can say "what you believe is wrong because [insert list here]." There are atheists who rant about how wrong they think the bible is and how right science is, and they are no better then the religious people who go around destroying other religions because what they think is the only way. Going up to somebody be it online or in real life and saying "what you think is wrong and you must think this because it is the only way" is like going up to a gay person and telling them their sexual orientation is wrong. stop bullying people for what they believe simply agree to disagree.

like i have said before, tired. may not make sense. oh well. Name one positive thing religion has ever done, except give people false hope.

Please, I'd like to hear this.

You're trying to tell me the Christian God doesn't want slaves? Are you serious? You can't be serious, I don't believe it.

" The following passage shows that slaves are clearly property to be bought and sold like livestock.

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

The following passage describes how the Hebrew slaves are to be treated.

If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.' If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT)

Notice how they can get a male Hebrew slave to become a permanent slave by keeping his wife and children hostage until he says he wants to become a permanent slave. What kind of family values are these?

The following passage describes the sickening practice of sex slavery. How can anyone think it is moral to sell your own daughter as a sex slave?

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

So these are the Bible family values! A man can buy as many sex slaves as he wants as long as he feeds them, clothes them, and screws them!

What does the Bible say about beating slaves? It says you can beat both male and female slaves with a rod so hard that as long as they don't die right away you are cleared of any wrong doing.

When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)

You would think that Jesus and the New Testament would have a different view of slavery, but slavery is still approved of in the New Testament, as the following passages show.

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)

Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)

In the following parable, Jesus clearly approves of beating slaves even if they didn't know they were doing anything wrong.

The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." (Luke 12:47-48 NLT)"

Woo! God has really tried his best to stop slavery. (I assume you refer to the Christian God.)

Christianity is a faith. Not a religion. But faith and a way of life. There is evidence of biblical events that have occurred. Whether your a athiest, hindu, or satanist you cannot deny the fact that there was a Jesus of Nazareth, you cannot deny that there wasn a King Herod. But it's your choice whether you believe Jesus of Nazareth was the son of God. That cannot be proven because its a faith. Noah's Ark can be proven, because they have found parts of it. There was an interesting show on the History channel. And it showed how Moses could've parted the red sea, scientifically. They then showed the model in which they did the experiment and they said it was possible.
