I'd like to create my own electronic remixes of some old folk songs I found. Please could you give me some suggestions on a suitable (preferably free) program that I could use for this. But don't say Ultramixer because you can't record your music on it. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried Audacity (a pretty obvious software lol, im sure you have :D)
And also, Garageband on Mac is amazing, and theres a windows alternative called Mixcraft, which is just amazing, I use it all the time with my MIDI keyboard, try downloading the 30 day trial, I'm sure you'll love it.

Try Mixxx (http://mixxx.org/). Free, open source, and none of this silly trial crap.

Virtual DJ is a great program. I prefer it over Audacity, you can get it for free on Downloads.com (http://www.downloads.com/)

Virtual DJ and Audacity are two totally different pieces of software. But for what you are using it for, I would recommend Audacity, since you can really fine-tune it to what you need. And it's free :)
