View Full Version : Ovarian Cysts?

I have experienced an intense, sharp pain in my lower left abdominal-ovary 'area' three times now. The pain usually starts out dull and slowly gets worse and worse until I can't even walk or stand right. Once the pain hits its peak, it vanishes almost instantly.
The pain I get when this happens is pretty much unbearable. But it has only happened to me three times total in very spread out intervals of several months to a year or so.

Would you say this might be ruptering ovarian cysts, or...? I've read about them a little, and it sort of sounds like them. If so, what should I do about it? And if not, what do you think it might be?

One of my friends had an ovarian cyst a few years back. I honestly know very little about cysts though I know some can be harmless though painful and if you believe you have one, a doctor's appointment is the way to go.

It could be that or something completely different that we can't diagnose. If it's very spread out, have they been around the time of your periods? It could just be cramping, as it can cause very severe pain at times, usually just before or during your period.

I know most threads here just lead to someone saying "go see a doctor" but if it's causing you that much pain, I would seriously recommend booking an appointment just in case and talk to your doctor about it.

Ha, it's definitely not cramping... I don't get bad cramps. It's usually just a dull pain, if anything at all. Also, it doesn't happen around/during my period. It seems pretty random, actually.

Just checking anyhow.

But yeah, like I said, maybe just make a general appointment with your doctor rather than wait for the next time for this to happen. Bring it up with him/her and see what they have to say.

Hopefully it's nothing too serious. :)

Is it just on one side? I get pains similar to this when I am ovulating...

Actually, lower left pain... I would go with appendicitis before jumping to an ovarian cyst...they can be dangerous...you need to schedule an appointment with your GP and let them know what is going on.

Well, it happens rarely... In the passed few years, it has only happened three times, like I said. That's not a trait of appendicitis, is it?

I've tried researching appendicitis, and this doesn't reeaally sound like it. (I know the internet is no replacement for a doctor, but better to at least try to educate myself, right?.)

It depends...it depends where you look...this (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/appendicitis.html) is a link to the National Library of Medicine and I already searched appendicitis...

Thanks! That's actually a pretty useful site. I'll probably try and see a doctor if it happens to me again... If it IS something like appendicitis, I probably don't want to wait until it gets worse.

Nope, no you don't.

Not sure which left you mean, your left? or someone looking to your abdomen left? Appendicitis usually starts with abdominal pain in the centre of the abdomen, and move over to your right side. I don't think it is Appendicitis, however you should see your GP as stated above.
