Hi.....

I know that the bump limit for P101 forums is 2 months.

But my question is, does the 2 months start from the date when the OP posted the thread, or from the last post in the thread?

Answers are greatly appreciated

It is from the last post.

As said above, it is two months from the last post. However, in Questions for Boys and Girls, the bump is 3 months. The bump limit is 2 months throughout the forums actually, just for the record.

Although, I really don't see the point in looking back at a thread that's a few months old and answering it, lol.

On the topic, I don't see why there also shouldn't be a limit, especially in the P101 forums, on two year bumps. Meaning, if the original post was two+ years ago, it should be locked as well. Chances are, the OP has the answer in that time, and there are just more and more repetitive posts.

If the thread is two years old, just don't post in it, simple. Most people know from common sense that there's no point in reopening a two year old thread. There's no need to lock them. In the case they are bumped, then we do lock it but otherwise, why not just leave them? Locking all of them is pointless really.

Any bumped thread is locked, if it hasn't been bumped there is no real need for us to close it, assuming that it follows all of the rules of course. We don't lock threads because we think that the OP has gotten their answer, because lets say the OP comes back and wants to bump his or her own thread with an updated question (which I have seen), but the thread is locked and got tossed into the archive with all of the other locked threads. The OP has the right to bump his or her own thread for a reason, and if what you suggest is done then that throws that entire idea out of the window. No matter what we do, say or what the rules state, there will always be repetitive posts, especially in the P101 sections, which I don't see to be a problem at all. There are kids who might not want to just read somebody else's topic and get a little bit of comfort knowing that a situation similar to theirs is okay. Rather, they want to post their exact situation under their name written with their words to receive advice or answers directly strictly at them, which there also is no problem with. In fact, that's the basic purpose of those sections, and rather this site as a whole; for people to be able to receive answers that they want, directed at them to help their problems or answer their questions.

I don't mean going through all the threads and locking ones that are that old. (Really, I don't like torturing the mods that much :P). What I mean is, if a thread is continually posted in over that time, without bumping, should it even be open anymore? They are mostly just old surveys and whatnot, and there are so many of those anyway.

I just thought it would relieve some unneeded clutter. But hey, it's your job, not mine.

EDIT: Seeing Mike's answer, this doesn't seem to make sense. All right, never mind it then. :)
