We have to swim the LENGTH of the pool next Monday as many times as we can in 12 minutes. I don't think I can get even a fourth of the way because I get exhausted really quickly, not to mention I can't swim well. what should I do? ):

I would suggest practice and a healthy diet. You need to build up your endurance for swimming, you need to practice. That is honestly the only advice I can give you.

Try have an energy drink before you swim and try your best

A reason that you get tired could be because of your breathing. I know that I would get so worn out really quickly because I was exhaling and inhaling when my head was out of the water instead of slowly releasing it when under the water. I would also say don't speed off at the start, go slowly even if it means being behind the others because it's no good doing your best 2 lengths then being exhausted for the next 8 or whatever.
Like Robert said, all you can do is practice just like you would with anything.

No!!!! Don't drink an energy drink. First of all, you're gonna crash later, and you'd be surprised how quickly you will. Secondly, it's gonna make your stomach hurt while swimming. I would just eat normally before, not too early! Just try to go in and relax in the water for a few minutes, and make sure you breathe right, my biggest problem was like Nikkis. I would inhale and exhale at the same time, this got me really tired really fast. Try no to go super fast, just go at a comfortable pace, and you'll do fine. I've been swimming for 8 years competitively, eventually I figured out how to do it efficiently lol

thanks guys you all helped
I've decided to do the backstroke for the assessment, I don't have to put my head in the water...I'll just go at my own pace.

Good idea, remember to tighten your stomach muscles and keep your hips and feet up because you'll find it a lot more difficult not being streamline. That can tire you out very quickly.
