I've recently developed dry skin in random patches and I'm not really sure why, I've never had dry skin before now. I exfoliate in the shower and I moisturize regularly but yeah it's not getting any better. So yeah other than moisturizing what else can I do to make it go away?

Hey Louise

OK so basically, there's a lot of things you can do to keep your skin soft, and moisturising it is a great start. I looked around the internet for you, and I've come up with some interesting findings;

Are you washing with lukewarm water, not hot water?
Heat can actually remove moisture from skin, so when washing, the idea is to keep moisture in the skin, not to add moisture into the skin. Hot water (along with any chemicals) will make dry skin worse than it already is.

Exfoliate your body!
Pamper your body, love it! Use posh sugar and salt scrubs, every week or on a semi-weekly basis!

Don't lick those lips!
Tempting huh? Got some jam under your nose? Wipe! Don't lick. You probably know this, it's best to apply vaseline to the lips to keep it lubricated and plumpy :)

Omega 3!
Goo fish oil! I was on some website, and it was talking about fish oil can heal dry skin! Wooo! They're cheap as well, and you can buy them everywhere! Not to mention they apparently make you brainy (so my mother said O_O)

Get a humidifier?
I dunno why you would need one, but if the internet says it can help your dry skin, it must be right(!)

Wash your face with pure things ^_^
Internet also says it's a good idea to use cold creams on your face. Mmmm. Feels pampering! These cold creams not only feel good, but some moisture out of them when left for time is absorbed into the skin. If you wash your face with tap water, then you are also risking your face to be exposed to impure harsh bitchy chemicals. Consider using spring water on your face.

Say no to tap water. Fish have sex in it.

Dry skin is awful. Where abouts are you getting it? (if you don't mind me asking?).

As Sandeep said fish oil is very good for you as well as your skin. Any oil is good actually, coconut and vitamin E I can recommend (also, oil keeps you from being able to itch I find because it stays on the skin whereas cream soaks in pretty quickly). E45 is a good cream though, use cream as often and as much as you need because after a while it should help.

It could also be dietary, are you drinking enough water? Eating a lot of drier foods, perhaps? Or maybe this is a type of breakout because you're having a reaction to something. Dogs get dry when they eat too much dry food, I'm fairly sure humans can go through the same.

I get dry skin due to Accutane, and I get dry patches of skin on my arms every now and then. I use Avon extreme Moistorization lotion, and I use equate moister body wash when that happens. It works really good....I guess you could use a scrub brush when you are in the shower, just scrub the dry skin so it will get the dead skin off.
