So I have a school debate coming up and this is the topic... I want to know arguments for both sides to see further into the issue :) thanks :)

I would definitely say no. I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I assume you mean giving the government the right to say you can only spend a certain amount of money on a funeral. I have no idea where you live either, but here in U.S. the government is typically supposed to keep it's greedy fingers out of our affairs. I personally would say no, there should be no cap, a person has the right to spend as much money as they want on a loved one's funeral.

I guess it would mean that laundering money through a funeral home would be harder

Not at all. I'm interested in what the people who would say yes have to say.
It's hard enough losing a loved one and even just claiming insurance, writing off bills etc can be hard enough. Without having to worry about a limit on the amount you can spend on your final goodbye. It's seems cold and cruel to stop people saying goodbye to their loved ones exactly how they want.

I think that people should be able to memorialize their loved ones in any legal way (i.e. you can't have them stuffed, you can't build a monument to them in a place were a monument isn't allowed etc.) because it is hard saying goodbye to a loved one and if there is a limit to spending then a lot of memorials wouldn't be possible.

Do you mean funeral homes shouldn't be allowed to charge over a certain amount, or that you shouldn't be allowed to spend however much you want?

No. If someone wants to spend 25,000 dollars on a funeral, well, that's their right. The government has no right to tell people how much they should spend on a funeral. If they can afford it, go ahead. How would this cap thing work anyways? Equal to everyone? So the rich and famous would have to have the same funeral as a poor person? What about the thousands of more people who come to the funeral? The security?

No. People should be allowed to spend as much or as little on their last memory with their loved ones as they want.
