Okay I'm here to try to give some advice. I have been cutting for a few months now and things are going pretty down hill. I just wanted to say if any of you guys just started cutting try to stop before it becomes an addiction. Cutting may seem like the perfect solution but it is only a temporary happiness. It starts off slow, I started out scratching myself with a pencil then ended using a razor blade. If any of you guys are at the "pencil" stage please try to stop. Try to figure out something else to relieve your pain. Trust me cutting feels good but after a while you start lying to people and you begin to detach yourself from friends, family, and the world. This is what happened to me and I feel like I should tell others so no one has to go through what I have gone through.

I totally agree with this. It's not worth it.

You've been cutting a few months though. You have plenty of time to get out of it too. I've now been cutting 2 and a half years. I started like you, with just scratches. I now have scars all over my arms, thighs and stomach. Most of those will never completely fade. You most probably have chance to get out before all that. I understand you're addicted, I was after the first few months too, but get out now, before you scar yourself for life.

Mine lead on to suicide attempts that landed me in hospital too. Those experiences where a thousand more traumatic and terrifying than my self-harm had ever been. Listen to your own advice. Stop now before it just gets worse. x

I agree with Kathy, and xYz too. It's really not worth it. I started and thought, "Hey, I can stop this at any time." But in reality, I couldn't stop after I'd done it for a while. I've tried and am trying, but at this point I don't care. It doesn't bring happiness, it never will. All it does is bring more depression. If you can stop, then do so. If you need help, get it. If you need someone to talk to, then *wave*, I'm here.

I agree. Stop while your ahead. I have been cutting for 3 years now. I also started with scratching myself, though with my nails not my pencil. I would scratch myself enough to bleed and leave scars/scabs. Those marks still have not gone away. I slowly progressed to razors, first a dull razor, now a sharp razor. I now have cuts and scars all over my thighs, wrists, stomach, and hips.

I really wish i had never started cutting, but now i have no idea how to stop. I dont have the necessary coping skills to stop.

If you have just started or are thinking about starting get help!!! find a different coping skill! Watch a funny movie, read a book, go for a run or walk, blast loud music, talk to someone, cuddle with your pet any of these things are better then cutting!!!

If only it were so simple.
