As Kyle said, it's very inappropriate to do anything to him or 'with' him while he's sleeping because he can't control what you do then and definitely can't say no. I strongly suggest you don't do that again, telling him probably isn't a good idea either.

However, if you're going to try anyway then I'd say that you just need to make sure you approach the situation in such a way that either of you feel comfortable to back out at any time.
