If Golf is a sport then Karate is defiantly a sport. I did it for 3-4 years - Its a sport.

when I said "the true Karate", I mean traditional Karate in Okinawa, Japan. "Sport karate" just use in sport competition, but true karate use for real fights, fight with other guys, and fight yourself.

It takes physical effort and can be pretty physically demanding, I'd definitely call it a sport.
