To have?

Her name is MAGGI3, named after Maggie Simpson. She's a cherry red 2004 model New VW Beetle. She's my dream car in every way possible, and while she's not MY car, my parents let me drive her everywhere and anywhere. I love her to death. she's my baby. And I blew the transmission.

I don't even know what that means! I told my mom MAGGI3 wouldnt drive in first or second gear, and ten minutes later she's flipping out because I blew the transmission and it'll be 4000 dollars to fix.

I need that car to get to school, but there isn't just 4000 dollars around the house. We're applying for loans to buy a house, so money is tight anyways. I'm not allowed to get a job, because I'm not allowed out of the house due to my not so recent, never ending grounding,(and I don't think babysitting the family friend's kids for twenty bucks every once in a while can be considered a job,) and not to mention the fact that my mother and I don't exactly get along.

So, my question is this. What would you do in my situation?

Get an loan and fix the car or go to a friend that know some friendly mechanics and try to let them fix it. Might be cheaper.

And to let you know, VW are not the most trust worthy car when it comes to mechanics, motors, transmission, etc. Especially Beetles.

Find a Beetle in a junkyard that still has a good transmission. My friend did that and he paid $250 for the whole job.

Is it Automatic or Manual? Did you do anything other than normal driving? How many miles does it have on it? How often do you get the transmission serviced (changing the transmission oil etc.)?

Eek..

It's a manual; nope, never done anything except normal driving; ALOT; and I don't know. My parents take care of all that. It's technically not '*my* car. Plus, we just recently bought it off of Craig's list about a year ago when I started driving

It doesn't make any difference what car you have, you can still blow the transmission.

I have 274,000 miles on my Crown Vic and still has the original transmission. Hasn't been rebuilt either. Pretty bullett proof.

My Grandfather had an old 1970's Ford Falcon (The main make and model that they use for taxis in Australia) and the odometer ticked back to zero twice and it still worked smoothly.

I have a 1997 Ford Falcon, and have heard lots of people who have said it will last 700,000 to 800,000 kilometers no problem at all.

I beg to differ.
