Well, considering that you've given us no animals to compare... humans are the most intelligent animals, by any stretch. Excluding humans, then the members of the ape family would definitely come in second – chimpanzees, orangutans, ect.

I don't know...I saw a documentary on octopus and they are hella smart.

I don't really have any proof yet. I will find some.

I reckon dolphins. They can recognize their reflections as themselves, some species can sing etc.
Apparently, if they had opposable thumbs they would be ruling the world instead of humans :P

I think I would consider an elephant to be one of the smartest animals on earth.

Humans are the smartest animals, although I will have to say that goldfish are smarter than some humans.

Edit: if I can't choose humans, I would have to say that dolphins are pretty smart, look to evil.angel for explanation.

You edited after I posted. A simple math equation, would lead you to not making false accusations.

Squid, cuttlefish and octopus are the most intelligent (and delicious) molluscs. Dolphins are cheeky buggers but I'd have to say chimpanzees are the smartest on earth. They even outshine humans in the short term memory category believe it or not.

Probably dolphins, IMHO, or chimps and gorillas. Maybe octopuses.

They're all smart in their own ways, it depends what you're expecting of them. As the saying goes "If you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree it'll spend its life believing its stupid".

Based off of what I know at this moment, I would say monkeys?

But if I were to actually research this, it's probably some obscure animal you would never think of.
