What is this?

I just wrote this. Its very short, but I think it has purpose, I'm just not sure what it is yet.

There was a crack in the wall that Ernest had never seen before. Perhaps because it wasn't there, or perhaps because he had overlooked it until now. Either way, Ernest saw the crack open up, wide, and swallow the air that perhaps didn't exist either. Then the crack closed again, until Ernest couldn't see it anymore, or maybe, just maybe, he was overlooking it again.
