Well, this is for my "non-traditional" aspect of my project. Uh, some photos are older but yeah. In psych we're doing a unit on mental illness and I'm doing my project on Borderline Personality Disorder (which I know a ton about, being in the middle of a diagnosis, much to my teacher's surprise). Just my interpretations of some of the symptoms/ways of thinking so I'll explain it as best I can (pretty textbook, honestly) under the photos.

The theme is that they're black and white because a borderline's view of people and many other things is characteristically black and white: ideal and evil.

(BPD sufferers often have very little sense of self, a low self-esteem and are often very fluid in how they label or characterize themselves which can be pretty detrimental to how others view them.)

(Very much like the impulsive actions with BPD, substance abuse [though yeah, I get using this photo of Seroquel makes no sense 'cause I can't see abusing that to be any... er, fun] and eating disorders are often co-morbid with the disorder.)

(Suicidal ideation and attempts and self-harm, pretty self-explanatory, I think.)

(Feelings of emptiness as well as dissociation are common. Yay, awful photoshop skills to make the ghost hand here. Looks better on the printed version somehow.)

(Fear of abandonment [can you tell I'm getting lazy describing what these represent? I've been writing a report, I'm sick of typing this all out, lol] whether real or imaginary and going to extreme lengths to avoid it, strong anger and harsh moodswings that make some researchers believe it may be on the bipolar spectrum though it's unclear due to co-morbid or misdiagnosed bipolar disorders.)

Right, hope I got my point across really. Some of these were taken with my DSLR recently and some are much older on my little digital point and shoot because I couldn't be bothered to recreate them, lol.

I know the contrast is pretty high and some may seem almost over-exposed but this was on purpose. It's a dramatic disorder (not kidding, it's classified as 'dramatic') so the photos were taken to pretty extreme lengths I usually don't like too much.

These are really good, Jo!

I like the one with the spilled pills and empty bottle; the emptiness in the bottle showing no hope left. I don't know if that's what you were going for, but I saw it like that.

The last one is really good as well.

Wow these are so powerful. I love the last three especially-the emotion in your face, hands, and your body language in general comes across so well. Absolutely beautiful.

The seventh made me smile as it looked to me like she (you?) was touching herself. Yep my mind's in the gutter. Great job though!
